Fist pumps

Frownette · 23/09/2020 14:28

I seriously don't like them as for me it feels violent.

I was getting forced into them recently until I put my foot down and said no, that feels horrible.

How do other people feel about them? Yes or no?

How does one find themselves forced into a fist pump?

I don't really come across them often - usually it is me instigating them to better cement my cool mum imaaage

Brrrrrap (etc)

Topseyt · 23/09/2020 14:35

How can you be forced into a fist pump? If you don't want to do one then just don't. 🤔

RedskyAtnight · 23/09/2020 14:35

Why more violent than (say) a high 5 or shaking hands?

Oh it's because you're asked to do it and I obeyed at first but I don't like it at all so eventually said that to him.

New friend, not romantic.

You mean adults fist pumping you? Of someone did that to me I would probably laugh. For kids it's fine, for adults.....nope. its cringey.

pepsicolagirl · 23/09/2020 14:38

YABU. You could have used the opportunity to launch a rock paper scissors tournament and moved your friendship to the next level?

DizzyPigeon · 23/09/2020 14:38

Do you mean fist bump? (bumping fists with someone else)?

I can't see how you could be forced into a fist pump, which is a solitary activity (usually done when you win something)

ThePants999 · 23/09/2020 14:39

Do you mean fist BUMP? Cos a fist PUMP is something you do by yourself.

ThePants999 · 23/09/2020 14:39

Damnit Dizzy 😁

DizzyPigeon · 23/09/2020 14:41

Ha!

(does victory first pump) Grin

WhatInTheHell · 23/09/2020 14:41

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought a fist pump was a dance move. (Making a fist and sort of punching the air) are you referring to a fist bump? Or is it just known as something different in different places?

I've never come across any adults wanting to fist bump. It's more children who think it's 'cool' I find. Although, I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable maybe more awkward than anything.

Actually I don't like hand interaction at all so this was a new one Blush

I don't like holding people's hands, don't like fist bumps, don't like high fives. I'll only tolerate someone I know well clasping my hand (briefly) in a form of affection.

Wondered what other people thought about it.

I'm not a handshake kind of person either, and would rather a fist bump. But yeah, neither would be my preference.

I wonder if people are doing them more for to covid, as its less contact than a handshake?

I'm happy with a verbal greeting, if its not someone I would hug.

Kanaloa · 23/09/2020 14:48

Is it a fist bump then? Bumping your fist gently against someone else’s? If so, I think they’re ok and don’t find them violent at all. If you don’t like them though that’s fine, you could just say ‘no thanks’ or maybe get in with a wave or something first.

If it’s a fist pump, like Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club, I would just not join in and let it fizzle out?

imnotimportant · 23/09/2020 14:48

All my builders do first bumps , it's nice and friendly ( pre corona )

imnotimportant · 23/09/2020 14:49

fist bumps * !

pepsicolagirl · 23/09/2020 14:51

Nobody else just presuming OP meant bump not pump then. okey doke

contrmary · 23/09/2020 14:54

Fist pump = the sort of thing Andy Murray does did when winning a game of tennis.

Frownette · 23/09/2020 14:54

@DizzyPigeon you have a verbal greeting from me Grin

It's nothing to do with COVID, I've always hated someone taking my hand.

So these fist pumps or fist bumps or whatever they're called are acceptable to some people? Relative new person and I told him to stop so he wants to hold my hand instead. I can't win.

ProudAuntie76 · 23/09/2020 15:10

A fist pump is something you’d do with your arm in the air at a concert or when you are really excited. It’s generally a solo activity.

A fist bump is when you bump fists with each other. Fist Bumps are kind of cringeworthy and I don’t like doing them either.

Frownette · 23/09/2020 15:18

@ProudAuntie76 oh it's a fist bump then. Thank you for explaining that.

I don't like them as well! I'm refusing to engage my knuckles anyway, just seems weird, like you're pretending to be a boxer.

Meatshake · 23/09/2020 15:25

If someone is fisting you without your consent then that is all manner of wrong Grin

Erm...I'm sure you're taking this out of context

Fist bumps are pretty innocuous, and I think most people are ok with them (or neutral). I don't know why hand-holding is an alternative to fist bumping, thouhgh, that is weird.
