To feel happy at the sound of the rain?

It’s been a long bloody summer. I don’t like the hot weather at the best of times but with Covid and everything else this summer seems to have dragged on forever. I’ve felt depressed for months now. I’m fed up, I’m sick of being hot, I’m sick of the streets been full of people “exercising” ... I’m just sick of everything.

About half an hour ago it all went dark outside. Then the rain started, really pelting down on the windows and I instantly felt happier. I feel cosy, safe ... the dogs are tucked up on the couch, I’ve got music on ... I’m just sat listening to the rain in the darkness feeling finally that little bit happier.

Is there such a thing as reverse SAD? I’ve always felt down in the summer and “content” in winter.

@Starksforthewin

Here in the South East we’ve had far more than one or two days of hot weather! Started back in March during lockdown and every month since then we’ve had many, many days of 25+ temperatures!

I’m another one grateful for cooler weather and I love rain.

It just went on and on didn’t it? I’m in the South East too and the summer was definitely long and mainly sunny, starting from March to coincide with the beginning of lockdown

I was thrilled to wake up to heavy rain. This is my time and with any luck, I won’t even be aware of the neighbours unlike the last six months Grin

Another good point, Abracadabra

So much anti social behaviour when the weather is hot.

I live in reservoir country. The reason we have a lot of reservoirs is because it rains a lot. You will forgive me for not getting excited about seeing yet more rain.

Although, I do love the smell of rain hitting the ground after a long, hot, dry spell.

My bedroom has a flat roof. It’s pouring down here right now. I love the sound!

Humans are programmed to feel safe inside when it rains. It's a throwback to neaderthal times when cave people would be inside their caves with a fire keeping them warm - the sound of the rain outside meant that wild animals would also be seeking shelter and so not pose a threat.
Not so safe if the wild animals were seeking shelter in the cave you happened to be hunkered down in Grin

I'm the same! I found a You Tube channel that plays the sound of continuous rain , its so relaxing to be curled up with my cat & a book & hearing gentle ,steady rain.
