to think that many youtubers are a bit desperate?

I tend to stick youtube on when I am working on a boring computer job, sorting files or rendering stuff. I tend to follow book tubers and beauty tubers mostly but its a mix of stuff. Recently I notice more and more that youtubers are being more and more clickbaity in how they screencap and titles their videos or worse, that they are making videos when they are clearly not in the mood for it. Other things seem to be sharing really deeply personal information about medical or relationship problems which seems risky. Some beauty tubers seem to be doing more and more extreme things to themselves such as injecting their own filler and botox or pdo threads amongst other things often it seems like their is a new video everyother day from the same people and some of them are making a mess of thier faces in the process all to get views I presume? I have unsubscribed to so many people recently.

Then there are the reaction videos, the drama videos and so on. Its so unusual to find someone just making the videos they feel like making now but they are so much nicer to watch.

I think the attention becomes like an addiction and to stand out they have to keep doing more and more extreme things,

@Thesearmsofmine I think you are right, I guess its also an income for many of them so they need to keep churning stuff out even if they have nothing to say or its really just a promotion.

I think most of them are a bit desperate. I suppose there’s so much choice that they need to try and make themselves stand out otherwise people will watch a different youtuber.

I’ve always thought I would really dislike to be a youtuber.

Clickbait YouTube video titles have been around for a while and are frequently made fun off.

I NEARLY DIED ON A HIKE?? 😱 (Gone Wrong) (Cops called) (18+)

Click on it and it's 20 minutes of them chatting to their pals and 30 seconds of them slipping on some mud.

I think there are two parts to it.
Firstly, there is the element of having to do more and more extreme things to stand out. If there are hundred of beauty vloggers all doing similar faces, using the same slang and editing in the same style then you have to do something different.

Secondly, in many countries we've been under some form of lockdown for months. There are fewer #spons to do, fewer days out to film and not as many people to collaborate with. Doing a reaction video is an easy way to produce content that is reliable during a time when many people are struggling to book/ arrange work. They're cheap and easy.

Before YouTube, there was public access TV. One of its greatest stars was Sondra Prill. Her videos are on YouTube now, with a deserved dedicated following. Here, enjoy. You're welcome.

@ShebaShimmyShake lol, you've just saved youtube for me!

She was ahead of her time.

Yes I agree. It’s just desperation I guess - it’s their livelihood. I follow a beauty you tuber who documented her plastic surgery journey, intimate details about herself and her partner. Basically - I know everything about this girl abs she has no clue who i am. It’s not safe but she started out as a really good make up artist - these days she’s just talking about the next promotion ad or the free stuff she gets. Less about the make up.

Redcups64 · 23/09/2020 14:43

Yes, sometimes it’s hard to even remember they are supposed to be full functioning adults!

My kids watch some rubbish and I can’t help but think these are adults running around screaming like kids as the ‘game master’ is going to get them Hmm

Adults...their adults!! It’s hard to accept really as they just act like idiots

CitizenFame · 23/09/2020 14:46

YABU if you think it’s only a bit desperate! It’s very much so.

slashlover · 23/09/2020 14:47

I haven't noticed it, although I don't watch drama or beauty videos. Unless Jenna Marbles Beautuber videos where she dyes her hair or does her own acrylic nails count? The most exciting videos I seem to watch nowadays are marble racing (Jelles) and people going on walks/taking the bins out (Robbie Knox).
