to think that karma won yesterday

This will no doubt out me if you know me but never mind.

We live in one of a pair of farm cottages down a small lane on the way to another village.
Our lovely neighbours shared their ring doorbell footage with me yesterday as we were the targets of the theft. We'd had a large, awkward, cumbersome package delivery which was (as instructed) left in the side yard and was visible from the lane. Two men, older and not that fit, came passed in a car and stopped to look at the package and with great difficultly manhandled it into the back of the car, having to shove the seats down and go to some effort putting it in.

If only we had access to cctv at the other end to see their faces when they opened their spoils to discover that they had approx 40kg of hay Grin

Annoying for us of course but they got what they deserved I reckon.

Love this OP 😂 wonder what they’ve done with your hay!

Can I be really boring and ask you to link which ring bell you have? I want one but am overwhelmed by choice!

@katmarie

We had two very large plant pots disappear from the front of our house a few days ago, these things are easily well over a metre across, and were full of soil and plants. So not light or manouverable really. Anyway our neighbour has cctv so we had a look, and two blokes can clearly be seen walking up to our property, chatting for a minute, then the bigger guy lifts one of the pots and makes off with it. As the security light comes on you can clearly see the smaller scrawny guy, who lifts the second pot, nearly collapses under it's weight, and makes off in a comedy fashion, staggering up the driveway and down the road, having clearly overestimating his ability to carry a very large very heavy pot. It would be funny if I wasn't pissed off that they nicked my pots! The police now have the images, so more fool them.
Sounds like you live near me, plants have been vanishing from gardens for a few weeks, footage shows 2 guys, sometimes with a shopping trolley and a van parked nearby.

Hay also stolen from local horse sanctuary, sometimes a pony too. People will steal anything these days. If we leave things in the front garden it is stolen by the 'gardeners' from over the road. I have watched them make off with them and reported to the Police who are too understaffed to bother anyway.

These thieves are called porch pirates in the US. It's gotten so bad in some areas, particularly around the holidays, that some people are creating "special" packages for them to nick.

One of our rented houses needed a Lawnmower and Vacumm cleaner to be collected for disposal as they were burnt out.

Just leave them outside when you go to work in the morning said i.

By 10 am when i got there all gone!, well saved me having to go to the tip i suppose:)

My DMs car got broken into, imagine their disappointment when all it contained was 200 bibles. They couldn't even steal it as it had a steering wheel lock on Grin

hanahsaunt · 23/09/2020 11:26

Between taking baby and assorted loads from the car into the house, someone broke into the car and lifted the last remaining bag which happened to be my leather rucksack. Except it was empty of anything other a (tied up) nappy sack complete with very dirty nappy ...

Batfinklestein · 23/09/2020 11:42

Hah! A friend of mine electrocuted himself on a faulty household appliance once. After getting over the shock (literally) he arranged for collection of it by the council for recycling. He left it outside the front of his house in a fancy area and it got nicked.
It really would be karma if the thief ever plugged it on & tried to use it!

I had someone steal a rosemary bush in a pot from outside my house in broad daylight. It was returned a year later.

On a slightly different tangent, used to know someone whose crook lock was stolen. Most ironic crime I've ever heard of Grin

My parents used to rent a garage in a block and one night their garage was ram-raided, causing a huge amount of damage. Rather than bash to door in they targeted the pillar at the side. The car was an ancient Lada so they decided to take the car park change which was less than a fiver.

The entire block of garages had to be pulled down and rebuilt.

JukeBoxHero · 23/09/2020 11:52

Old work colleague of DH's had his laptop bag stolen by a lad on a bike as he walked to work. Unbeknown to the lad it only contained his cheese and onion sandwiches for lunch as he'd left the actual laptop in the office.
A few minutes later the boy cycled back past and threw the bag, still containing his lunch, back at him 😂

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/09/2020 12:01

We grew up really poor and always used to joke that, if we were broken into, the thieves would feel sorry for us and leave stuff.

When I'd left home my parents were, indeed, broken into. They'd watched the house and seen that the car wasn't parked outside (because my brother had taken it for the evening). They broke in (insecure back door) and wandered through the house, turned on the light in my parent's bedroom and must have been terrified out of their lives when my mum sat up, curlers and hairnet, and spoke....

They ran away and left a very useful toolkit...

MatildaTheCat · 23/09/2020 12:05

I watched from an upstairs window as two thugs stole a loathe parcel from my porch (too heavy for me to lift in, was waiting for DH). I called the police and gave them the registration number.

Turns out these people were of interest to the law enforcement fraternity and they were able to obtain a warrant to search their address which I believe they did quite thoroughly as well as conducting lengthy interviews at the station. Unfortunately no evidence found but I hope the thieves thought a large bag of dog food was worth the trouble.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/09/2020 12:07

@Junkmail

I may have one even better. My brother put a bag outside the door of his flat (in the close area) to remind him to take it when he left for work. It was only there max 30 mins. When he came out it had been stolen.

It was full of dirty cat litter. He had been intending to drop it in the bin on his way past to his car.

Similar - an elderly neighbour had her shopping bag (plastic) whipped out of her hand by two yobs on a mountain bike a few years ago - they pedalled off shouting four-letter words and giving V-signs.

She was very shocked and had almost been pulled off her feet. However she said she would have loved to have seen their faces when they looked inside and found umpteen bags of dog sh*t!

(She not only cleans up after her own dog, but if she sees a dropped bag, or an obvious neglected poo, she'll clean that up too)

You should sell the footage to the Daily Mail online. They love that sort of thing and you might get a few quid.
Springersrock · 23/09/2020 12:10

😂

Years ago we had a skip. On the day it was due to be collected, I thought I’d empty the household bins as our black bin was already pretty full

Emptied my daughter’s s nappy bin and other bits and bobs into a black bin bag and chucked it in the skip.

About an hour later I saw a bloke on a bike, cycle up to the skip, have a rummage, take the bin bag and cycle off.

I’d love to have seen his face when he got home and found a bin bag full of shitty nappies and odd and ends of rubbish.

A couple of years ago we had a tent stolen from out the front of our house. It was up in the loft and old and knackered (it leaked and some poles were broken) so I was going to take it to the tip. Put the bag containing the tent bit on the drive next to my car, went back in to get the bag containing the poles - came out to find the tent had gone.

A couple of weeks ago I had an Amazon delivery stolen from my porch - it was a big bag of dried fish treats I’d ordered for the dog. Dog was gutted but they stink to hell it did make me laugh to think of someone opening the box 😂

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/09/2020 12:14

Classic from my youth. We had a nun who used to cycle everywhere visiting the sick at home, and someone nicked the bottle of whisky out of her basket after her visit to one of the elderly residents. Trouble was, it was full of wee she was taking to the GP for him. Same colour....

Never mess with the Almighty!

Lugubelenus · 23/09/2020 12:14

I like the idea of putting objects consigned for the tip in a fancy box and leaving it outside the front door. It would save me a fortune in petrol money.

ShebaShimmyShake · 23/09/2020 12:15

Is it illegal to steal from a skip? The whole point is for getting rid of stuff you don't want.

JukeBoxHero · 23/09/2020 12:15

For those who haven't seen it, this guy was a bit fed up with having his Amazon parcels stolen. He booby trapped them and filmed the results. It's wonderfully satisfying...

LadyCatStark · 23/09/2020 12:17

Stripesgalore · 23/09/2020 12:17

‘H’mmm

I have an old tv to dispose of

If I find an imposing box and some labels
And leave it under my doormat , will someone nick it so you think,‘

This is brilliant. I too have an old tv...
