to think that karma won yesterday

This will no doubt out me if you know me but never mind.

We live in one of a pair of farm cottages down a small lane on the way to another village.
Our lovely neighbours shared their ring doorbell footage with me yesterday as we were the targets of the theft. We'd had a large, awkward, cumbersome package delivery which was (as instructed) left in the side yard and was visible from the lane. Two men, older and not that fit, came passed in a car and stopped to look at the package and with great difficultly manhandled it into the back of the car, having to shove the seats down and go to some effort putting it in.

If only we had access to cctv at the other end to see their faces when they opened their spoils to discover that they had approx 40kg of hay Grin

Annoying for us of course but they got what they deserved I reckon.

My XH had a fit in the street and someone stole a bag of shopping.

Seriously, wtf is wrong with people!

underneaththeash · 23/09/2020 09:18

Brilliant - the only thing we’ve had go missing after delivery since we’ve been out of London is a tube of ants!
I’d love to see their face...

Junkmail · 23/09/2020 09:18

I may have one even better. My brother put a bag outside the door of his flat (in the close area) to remind him to take it when he left for work. It was only there max 30 mins. When he came out it had been stolen.

It was full of dirty cat litter. He had been intending to drop it in the bin on his way past to his car.

And to think they thought they were making hay while the sun was shining
They must have been clutching at straws

Ha, on a 6th form trip to London one of the lads was taken unwell and the decision was made to let him return home on the next train. He'd thrown up in a plastic carrier bag, which someone nicked from next to him whilst he was resting his eyes!

ToastyCrumpet · 23/09/2020 09:25

Someone slit open a package on my doorstep once but left it on discovering it was full of cat food. More fool him really - it was £90-worth.

x2boys · 23/09/2020 09:25

I live on n a fairly deprived area and they will seriously nick anything round here ,my Dh car got broke into a few months ago and they nicked his antidepressants,he only had them in the car because our son has severe autism and he keeps trying to grab tablets etc ,another time the nicked some long life milk ,from the back of the car ,Dh had got a multi pack from Asda and because he was bringing the shopping in he brought a couple of cartons in intending to bring the rest in later and some sod nicked them!

RaspberryToupee · 23/09/2020 09:29

@Mumsnut

H’mmm

I have an old tv to dispose of

If I find an imposing box and some labels
And leave it under my doormat , will someone nick it so you think,

I think the trick is that the box has to be big enough to be enticing or where you live, they risk being found for them to take it.

I had an amazon delivery of new and second hand books - including a new Spot the Dog for my younger cousin - and the box had been opened and rummaged in when I came home but they didn’t take anything Grin Out flat was off the main rd and sheltered so they’d have time to open the box and rummage through it. Obviously in the case of OP they didn’t have time to rummage without being caught with it being in sight of a road. So place it somewhere with high traffic if you can. If you can print a label that with a made up an electronics company as the return address, that should also make it more enticing.

Heyha · 23/09/2020 09:30

misses point OP if you could buy and store a couple of bales of horse hay you would get your 40kg for about £10

I can picture the scene, wait for it to be either fly tipped or sold at the local car boot. What cheeky fs

Amazing, now they'll get done for theft for some hay!

I had a considerable amount of criminal damage done to my car by 2 local guys a couple of weeks ago when it was parked outside....they were drunk. Nearly 1k worth of damage. All caught on amazing quality cctv and the 2 people very identifiable. Expensive night out for them as they're now paying.

I'm looking for a cheaper place but haven't found one to deliver, i only have a small car.

My parcelforce delivery guy always leaves my monthly parcel in my blue bin if I’m not home.

Someone stole it once. Like OP, I wish I could’ve saw their faces when they opened it and saw a supply of stoma bags, bed pads, adhesive remover spray and dry wipes. Oh how I laughed!

Heyha · 23/09/2020 09:44

Ah that's a bugger. I've done it before that I've ordered an extra bale for someone local that had rabbits, and kept it with my stack and they just collected a slab or two when they needed to top up their supply at home. Depends if you've got any horsey or sheepy folks that you could ask locally but would deffo be an option if you can. Depends on what quality of hay you need as well I guess.

I doubt anyone will nick your next delivery now though 😂

sueelleker · 23/09/2020 09:53

I wonder what they thought they were nicking? How much is 40 kg of hay btw They were probably hoping for a giant TV.

ginghamtablecloths · 23/09/2020 09:53

Someone stole a wooden pallet from my drive - worth about £4 at the time. They left behind some mesh ( the type you put on a wall arch before you plaster) which luckily was soft enough to fold up and put in the bin. Cheeky sods.

Hmm, a cuboid shaped television Grin I can't think what they thought might be that large and outside a farm cottage in a box made from a flat piece of cardboard, brown tape and no logo. They must be extremely hard of thinking Grin

I had my car broken into whilst at work- stupidly I had left a bag behind the drivers seat. No damage to the car, other than a slight dent above the lock.

They pinched the bag which contained a wet swimsuit, towel & goggles. Gutted they were my best goggles.

SignOnTheWindow · 23/09/2020 10:17

@Mildmanneredmum

Classic from my youth. We had a nun who used to cycle everywhere visiting the sick at home, and someone nicked the bottle of whisky out of her basket after her visit to one of the elderly residents. Trouble was, it was full of wee she was taking to the GP for him. Same colour.....
This is AWESOME! Grin
katmarie · 23/09/2020 10:40

We had two very large plant pots disappear from the front of our house a few days ago, these things are easily well over a metre across, and were full of soil and plants. So not light or manouverable really. Anyway our neighbour has cctv so we had a look, and two blokes can clearly be seen walking up to our property, chatting for a minute, then the bigger guy lifts one of the pots and makes off with it. As the security light comes on you can clearly see the smaller scrawny guy, who lifts the second pot, nearly collapses under it's weight, and makes off in a comedy fashion, staggering up the driveway and down the road, having clearly overestimating his ability to carry a very large very heavy pot. It would be funny if I wasn't pissed off that they nicked my pots! The police now have the images, so more fool them.

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/09/2020 10:41

Just after my mum died her usual delivery was made to her outside porch and, because she had just died, left for a couple of weeks in all its medical packaging.

It was nicked at some point during this time and I bet the local junkies got a bit of a disappointment at realising they'd gone to some difficulties to steal loads of bags of stoma care products.

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2020 10:42

OMG, opportunistic hay thieves are roaming the country. Lock up your grass, everybody.

theDudesmummy · 23/09/2020 10:48

KInd of reminds me of when my car was broken into and having rifled through everything in the car they took absolutely nothing , including looking through but leaving about 20 CDs (clearly my music taste was just too awful)
