Partner or kids?

I love my partner, husband in my case, married for 20 years. But I’d die for my kids in a heartbeat if I had to. I’m curious, is there any mother out there who would choose their partner over their kids?

This question comes up fairly often on MN and it’s often a source of controversy and heartache.

It’s not necessary or particularly helpful to rank your love for people. Most people would agree they love their kids in a different way to their partner, just like they love their partner in a different way to their parents. Is it necessary or even possible to qualify it beyond that?
