To think that condensing tumble dryers don’t make clothes smell good?

So I have just bought a condensing tumble drier and when I put the clothes in they smell great - when I take them out they smell of nothing!

I love the heavy scent of fabric conditioner so it’s really annoying me. Dryer sheets get sucked into the lint filter so make no difference.

AIBU to think that condensing dryers somehow suck the smell from clothes and does anyone have any idea on how to keep that fresh laundry smell?

  • I rarely use the dryer, it’s for back up use only.

They don't smell as nice as line dried washing but I don't find that they smell of absolutely nothing- there is some of the softner scent still there and I can tell which softner I used. I've found that cheaper softeners don't smell as strong so maybe just try more expensive fabric conditioner and use more?

I find mine smell better coming out if the condenser dryer than on the line, and I dont use a dryer sheet. Just the fabric softener in the wash. Its not a heavy smell, but it's nice.

I will try another brand of fabric conditioner and see if that makes a difference. It was so disappointing that they didn’t smell of anything at all.

I hate artificial smells (migraine trigger) and have better sense of smell than a bloodhound so prefer no smell. My condenser dryer is heaven for that reason! It actually has a slot you can put fragranced capsules and came with one free, DH “helpfully” put it in when I was at work and I went mad! Took it out and binned it! You could try one of these if you like fragranced laundry though? Or those sheet things?
The only smell I do like is the outdoor laundry drying smell (mmmmmmmm fresh off the line) but the condenser does a better job of leaving things in a state where they don’t need ironing (yipppeee!).

I love the smell of tumble dried clothes and absolutely hate the smell of line-dried! I remember even as a child it turned my stomach. My friends are obsessed with line-drying and hang everything outside where possible but I just do not get it Confused

You can buy scented sheets or scented egg things (more eco friendly) to put in your tumble dryer if that would help?

I soak (a clean) cloth in fabric conditioner diluted with water and Chuck it in with the drying, makes the clothes smell lovely when dry
