... and the other parents too.

Basically, DD came home from school today and informed that two pupils in her class were sent home today due to having coughs.

Does that not mean the whole class should be isolating now, in other words DD and my household should be isolating?

I’m frigging furious that the school have failed to inform us!

Surely they have been sent home to be tested and if they get positive tests, the bubble/s needs to isolate?

If every class isolated for every child with a cough no schools would be open.
The procedure is usually that if a child displays symptoms they get sent home to get tested. If they are positive then the class is informed they need to isolate.

There are 1700 pupils at DC school, I think I'd go crazy if I had a call or email every time of of them had a cough!

Do you want the school to tell everyone any time your child is il too?
They only need to isolate if one of the children test positive & based on my experience not even a whole class are asked to isolate, only those the NHS deem to be 'close contacts'

No you wouldn't isolate unless someone tests positive. There are loads of coughs about and the vast majority are part of cold symptoms rather than covid

Wow. Really? Do you want to know how many pupils are missing from every one of my classes at the moment? Loads! You really, really don’t want to have to isolate for every cough!

If they test positive yeah, but where are the tests? None here. Your kids could have been exposed and you'd be none the wiser.

I know, but I thought If you or anyone in your bubble shown symptoms of Covid then you had to isolate until a test result came back as negative or if it came back positive, isolate for 14 days

School is clearly pretty sure it's a cold - as are many many many of the current coughts.
If they test positive then fine - but it's all pretty pointless. The sooner all the kids have had it, the sooner we can get back to normal

Honestly, you’d never not be isolating! I have at least three pupils missing from every class I teach at the moment. No confirmed cases. No positive tests.

School bubbles aren’t like household bubbles.

School bubbles can be 300 kids. You can’t isolate 300 kids for a fortnight every time one gets a cough. They aren’t even necessarily all isolated if one tests positive, if not close contacts.

I have multiple kids and staff out in every class due to coughs and high temperatures. I'm certainly not informing parents about everyone and nor should I , that's ridiculous. If we get a positive test then I will take advice from PHE and notify parents accordingly. You are being a little ridiculous!!

Many children are off school with coughs at the moment. The vast majority will turn out to be colds. I think I have five off plus one TA in my class at the moment. I’m not worried, it’s just annoying how difficult it is to get tests. We wouldn’t inform parents unless their child needed to actually isolate.

I work in a school, we've had quite a few families go to get tests. If we'd closed and isolated the class every time we'd only have been open for a day or two.

The advise is that if someone tests positive then the bubble isolates. More than one case is an outbreak and so more action may be taken (public health England to advise).

Before being angry at the school get your facts straight.

If a class had to isolate every time a pupil coughs, schools would be closed. Cough is a potential symptom, but not by any means a reliable indicator.

Don't be so silly OP!

Colds are rife in schools at the moment as kids come back together after 6 months off (Ireland).

There's no need for anyone to be notified unless there's a Covid + test.

My 3 children have all had colds, and they are definitively colds - they are still going to school. Coughs & all. (And this is the correct action).

I can't believe the amount of DC going into school sick. There are a few in my DC's class with terrible colds who have passed it onto others including my own, who I kept off as soon as he started coming down with it. Are you telling me that primary school DC can spend a week in school blocked up and coughing without a temperature above 37.8 degrees? I don't think so. These parents are irresponsible and my school have also done nothing about it.

When I asked the teacher, I got the impression they were more concerned about infringing an 8 year olds rights rather than stopping a whole class getting a nasty cold. Now the teacher is off sick. I do hope he has been able to get a test.

Exactly this. I work as a 1:1 TA. My pupil was off with a cough. I was told that a positive test would mean that I needed to isolate for 14 days but that my children could still go to their school. With DH doing the school run that sounded like a pretty sweet deal to me
