We’re about an hour away from cheddar gorge and Not sure where to stop for lunch

I’ve got an energetic 2 year old who needs lunch but also maybe somewhere with a garden and grass?

A lot of places on trip advisor just have stone wall terraces

Yes, YABU. That's not what this board is for.

sapnupuas · 21/09/2020 11:38

I was hoping this would be about the cheese.

FOJN · 21/09/2020 11:40

Me too and I was looking forward to a thread about a cheese emergency. Sometimes MN can really let you down. See also BJ in Italy!

Bagadverts · 21/09/2020 11:42

Don’t live anywhere near so no answer to your actual question. I can recommend tickler as a good strong cheddar.

TheBlueStocking · 21/09/2020 11:43

I can't tell you where to eat, but I just drove through there about two hours ago and it was very, very misty on low ground.

SuzieCarmichael · 21/09/2020 11:44

Wensleydale and Lancashire are both far nicer

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2020 11:44

Cheddar is always ready to give advice!

I was just relieved this wasn't about the cat being in trouble! 😀

northstars · 21/09/2020 11:45

Really? Hmm

Wensleydale tastes of wet chalk. Lancashire's okay with Christmas cake.

ShayAndBlueSeeker · 21/09/2020 11:47

Always good to buy organic dairy

AdoptAdaptImprove · 21/09/2020 11:47

I haven’t been for about 5 years, so things could have changed, but the Rodney Stoke Inn used to have good food and had a terrace, a grassy garden and a play area. It’s about 3 miles from Cheddar.

Coughsyrupsucks · 21/09/2020 11:48

Everywhere there has stone wall terraces and nowhere to run for little ones, at Cheddar. Wells might be a better bet, grab some picnic stuff at Wells Waitrose and head to the Cathedral grounds.

FOJN · 21/09/2020 11:49

SuzieCarmichael

Try Godminster mature cheddar or smoked cheddar they might change your mind.

Mamette · 21/09/2020 11:50

I too wanted the details of a cheese emergency Sad

steppemum · 21/09/2020 11:52

Are you heading to the caves?
Because they are closed.

ghostyslovesheets · 21/09/2020 11:53

Red Leicester is nicer and I love a crumbly Wensleydale

LongPauseNoAnswer · 21/09/2020 11:54

Cheddar gorge was read wholly wrong by me who is not from the UK nor ever lived there. I had to read the OP three times before I realised that the cheddar gorge is a PLACE not an immensely enjoyable activity.

Only came on here for the urgent cheese advice.

Dramalam · 21/09/2020 11:58

The Riverside pub in Cheddar has a garden and play area.

Well if you want some sensible suggestions, you could at least say what direction you're coming from.

I had to read the OP three times before I realised that the cheddar gorge is a PLACE not an immensely enjoyable activity

Now I'm wondering if this is a euphanism or just eating lots of cheese, but I'm sure that it is the latter, there will be a tea room in the vicinity that offers you the 'gorge on Cheddar near Cheddar Gorge' platter. They might even have some grass for the OPs 2 YO to run around on.

This made me laugh out loud because it is exactly how I feel, especially re BJ in Italy.
