Posting here for traffic. I suffer from anxiety and the pandemic is making it worse.

I keep reading that being overweight puts you at an increased risk.

I am 29, am obese according to bmi. I'm not in denial that I need to lose weight. My post isn't about that. I know I need to. My bmi is in the low 30's.

I actually managed to maintain my weight during lockdown rather than gain which is great. I've lost a few pounds recently without trying (probably due to stress which isn't ideal tbh).

I am planning to and intend to lose weight.

But I'm getting major anxiety about the virus.. anyone else worried too??

I know the obvious is to lose weight which as above I intend to.

I'm pretty healthy generally, good immune system I think - never seem to people anything up. Barely had a cough of chest infection in my life. Pretty active too just need to stop eating the chocolate 🤣 no actual underlying health issues - just fat!

This doesnt answer your question but weight is just one risk factor. So you might be slightly more at risk than a 'healthy' BMI 29 year old but we are talking a small fraction. You are young and have no underlying health conditions so the overall risk is still extremely low.

For example (these figures are made up) say the risk of being hospitalised is 1 in 100,000 for a healthy weight. Someone says that being obese increases the rate of hospitalization 10x. That sounds like a massive increase. But the risk would still only be 1 in 10,000 so still to all intents and purposes negligible at an individual level

I share your anxiety - I am obese. I’ve lost a stone during lockdown, but I have a long way to go before I have a healthy BMI. I’m trying to increase my exercise to improve my aerobic capacity but I’m terrified of getting it.

@ChazP you have my ultimate respect for losing weight in lockdown! Well done.

Thanks. It’s been a slow slog, and the summer holidays sent me off the rails, but I’m trying to get myself back into the right mindset again:
