Levels of Professionals who regularly take A-class drugs e.g. Heroin and Cocaine

Tigerzmum · 20/09/2020 10:19

I read it on one of the threads in Mumsnet, some months back, that drug taking like Heroin and Cocaine were prevalent amongst professionals; In fact, in conversation with 2 friends recently I was informed that I was not socially aware if this was new to me!

OP posts:

Maybe cos they have more income?

ssd · 20/09/2020 10:21

Or maybe more stress to deal with?

yawnsvillex · 20/09/2020 10:21

Huge in the banking industry, lawyers and doctors

CitizenFame · 20/09/2020 10:30

Yeah, I knew this. I thought it was common knowledge actually.

Happylittlethoughts · 20/09/2020 10:31

"Or maybe more stress to deal with?"

Do they now?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 20/09/2020 10:33

Yes, people of all incomes/classes take drugs. But coke is very expensive so unlikely to be the lower classes unless its criminals.

ShinyGreenElephant · 20/09/2020 10:37

I've never heard of professionals taking heroin but they all seem to take coke. Its too expensive unless you've got a decent income (or you're a drug dealer)

THisbackwithavengeance · 20/09/2020 10:39

I would imagine it's more of a London thing OP.

But I would be shocked if I found out my own GP (naice Northern town) was taking cocaine. I mean, come on!

But if people want to shove something up their nose that's been shat out of a dog's arse, more fool them.

Eh?

Shepherdspyreads · 20/09/2020 10:41

I definitely reserve more judgement for middle class folk that indulge in coke, x100 if they are woke too.

IheartJKR · 20/09/2020 10:43

I really don’t understand how people can tbh???
Apart from the moral issue...I only have to have a few beers on an evening and I’m dragging my carcass around all day.
How do they manage life ????

MsWonderful · 20/09/2020 10:43

I would think it’s more likely to be cocaine than heroin

ALLIS0N · 20/09/2020 10:43

Dentist and doctors get struck off if they get caught doing this.

If you look at the General Dental Council and General Medical Council websites you can see details of cases, including names.

contrmary · 20/09/2020 10:48

I'm not convinced that many professionals are regular heroin users but cocaine definitely.

iklboo · 20/09/2020 10:55

Some doctors taking drugs tend to nick opiates from work or write prescriptions in false names for them. Not heroin, more the 'big' painkillers like morphine, fentanyl etc - and larger quantities of meds like diazepam, tramadol etc.

unmarkedbythat · 20/09/2020 11:11

Rampant coke use everywhere but streer heroin, no. Abuse of prescription drugs, oh yeah, getting a private script for opiates or benzos isn't hard. Night work across the country seems to run on coke. Never been my cup of tea (not my preference for fun drugs and working under the influence is a hideous prospect for me) but honestly every third person I meet seems to be a sniffer.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 20/09/2020 11:11

Just for perspective ...... I don't.

I used to. But now the very thought makes me shudder.

I can't even drink these days without dragging my dead body around the next day.

Evil fucking stuff. The things I did makes me hang my head in shame.

Lockheart · 20/09/2020 11:29

I'm sure it was much bigger in the 90s, but as a finance professional working in the city for the last few years I've never personally witnessed anyone taking drugs, nor have I been offered them.

Perhaps I hang out with the boring crowd, who knows?

IheartJKR · 20/09/2020 11:53

@yawnsvillex

Don’t be too hard on yourself Flowers.
Be proud of yourself for making changes, it’s not an easy thing to do and many can’t.

seayork2020 · 20/09/2020 11:56

I wonder how many MP's and other parliamentary workers?

taraRoo · 20/09/2020 13:53

It's everywhere. A give away is when someone over 25 says they were out drinking until 6am. You can't stay up that long ... good chance it's cocaine. My husband has lots of friends that do it regularly. I think it's hanging on to their youth or some attempt at being edgy. I think it's a bit sad. At 40 you should know better.

DioneTheDiabolist · 20/09/2020 13:56

I know quite a few high flyers who had heroin habits. It's not as coolHmm as cocaine so they didn't mention it as much as coke users.

GoldfishParade · 20/09/2020 14:26

I know a GP who takes ecstasy two or three times a month

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/09/2020 14:28

One of my doctor friends takes a lot of cocaine int he evenings. Doesn’t even have to be going out.

I had to stop seeing her as she wanted everyone to join her in it
