Anyone any cures for mouth ulcers? I have about 3 on the tip of my tongue, and then big ones on the sides of my tongue, 4 under my tongue and 2 clusters on my lower lip - inside. Kept waking me up in the night it's stinging so much. I've been putting bonjela on them, and doing a corsydol mouthwash, but in agony. At work all day today and I cant talk properly! TIA

Colleague of mine had dreadful mouth ulcers when he had Covid - just saying.

And you have a drastic change of taste you say?????

Submariner · 18/09/2020 19:22

@Moonfig

Pineapple is meant to help because of the enzymes, i found it too painful to eat though.
Noooo! Pineapple is the other thing that sets my ulcers off (apart from toothpaste). Had a massive ulcer for 2 weeks once after eating pineapple.
fruitpastille · 18/09/2020 19:49

Iglu gel gives great pain relief but may not stick to your tongue.

LakieLady · 18/09/2020 20:11

Have you tried a vitamin B supplement

This.

I get a crop of mouth ulcers now and again, and a couple of folic acid tablets over a day or two makes them clear up really quickly.

coffeelover3 · 18/09/2020 22:19

thanks everyone. couldn't get to the chemist on the way home but am doing the salt water. I think it's helping. Gonna go to bed soon with 2 paracetamol and hope they are clearing up. Is folic acid the same as vit b then.

I find a few drops of rose water diluted in some cold water really helps when the ulcers are throbbing with pain. My mum used to use rose water neat on mouth ulcers, it's supposed to be cooling

Facelikearustytractor · 18/09/2020 22:55

I had this and it was fucking awful. My son had hand, foot and mouth around the same time, so I think it could have been linked. Anyone around you have similar symptoms?

I tend to put crushed paracetamol directly on the ulcer, which gives some relief.

Username781 · 18/09/2020 23:01

TCP

Beansprout30 · 18/09/2020 23:16

I suddenly started getting mouth ulcers earlier in the year quite regularly and it seemed to tie in with me doing a fasting diet. I wasn’t eating breakfast, since eating breakfast again I’ve hardly had any. Possibly diet related ?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 18/09/2020 23:24

Neat salt on the ulcers. I almost like the pain from that Confused
Rinstead pastilles are fab if you can find them.
TCP dabbed on with a cotton bud.

BettyFilous · 18/09/2020 23:40

Mouth ulcers can also indicate zinc deficiency.

Mintlegs · 18/09/2020 23:54

You may wish to try regular mouthwash. It stings like a bugger but it works

BexR · 19/09/2020 00:00

So painful arent they. I usually get them with my period, in my 40s and I only just noticed the link.

I use difflam spray for sore throats to numb them. Anbesol liquid ok too. Fuck knows how to prevent them though.

Horispondle · 19/09/2020 00:01

Corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash, take it with you and use it all day at work. Numbing spray from the dentist when it gets so bad you can't eat.

Susannahmoody · 19/09/2020 00:02

Hand foot and mouth?

Heffalooomia · 19/09/2020 00:03

@emptyshelvesagain

I use anbesol which sting like a bastard when you apply it but numbs in seconds and works like magic.
Cocaine works great doesn't it😶
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 19/09/2020 00:03

@PinkLegoBrick

Definitely get checked for Coeliac disease.
Came here to say the same!
DangerMouse17 · 19/09/2020 00:04

Gengigel is excellent at healing and getting rid of then

RandyGiles06 · 19/09/2020 00:06

I’ve always used a dab of marmite on mine, had one earlier this week, dabbed on some marmite and it was gone by morning! Am I the only one who does this?! Grin

TinkersTailor · 19/09/2020 00:34

My mouth becomes riddled with ulcers when I'm stressed, I really feel for you Sad
I echo PPs, go to the GP. A mouthful of ulcers can be indicative of something else going on.-

One thing I found that helped is holding a Tyrozet in my mouth, moving it around every now and then.
It totally numbs the mouth to take the edge off the pain.

Other things I've found as well;
Swill with diluted TCP
Holding a damp teabag in the mouth (the tannins are pain-relieving)
Anbesol liquid

Iglu creates a barrier over the top of the ulcer but it's like holding gooey glue in your mouth so it's hard to use during the day.

FinallyFluid · 19/09/2020 00:42

Agree with @Danger Mouse, I had head and neck cancer and the subsequent treatment, I started off with ulcers and graduated to lesions the size of my thumbnail the only thing that went anywhere near them was Genigel.

mathanxiety · 19/09/2020 00:57

Can you lay your hands on some cinnamon flavoured chewing gum? Chew some and when the flavour starts to hit, press the gum against the ulcers.

Or get some food grade or dental cinnamon oil and apply tiny drops.

mathanxiety · 19/09/2020 01:00

Adult anbesol gel is the dental one with cinnamon oil.

treetop4 · 19/09/2020 08:56

I'v also suffered a long time with ulcers. Had a blood test for something else which came back with ridiculously low folate levels - Googled and apparently this can cause ulcers. Started taking high dose folic acid now. Also wondering if I had coeliac too as this can cause vitamins to not be absorbed well and I have pain after gluten.

nearlynermal · 19/09/2020 09:02

OP, I get a lot of mouth ulcers especially when I'm drinking too much I had a great prescription paste that's no longer available, have tried all sorts of things, but recently a dentist put me onto this, and it actually works.
