Anyone any cures for mouth ulcers? I have about 3 on the tip of my tongue, and then big ones on the sides of my tongue, 4 under my tongue and 2 clusters on my lower lip - inside. Kept waking me up in the night it's stinging so much. I've been putting bonjela on them, and doing a corsydol mouthwash, but in agony. At work all day today and I cant talk properly! TIA

I came on to say toothpaste without SLS. I use Kingfisher. Last time I was staying at a friend's house and borrowed some of their 'normal' toothpaste I came out in ulcers within the day. Never, ever again!!

EKGEMS · 18/09/2020 12:11

I get them and keep a mouthwash with benzoyl peroxide in my medication cabinet (here in the US. ) I also had to recently get a a Rx strength medication from my dentist which numbs and coats the oral mucosa because I had a tongue ulcer from my steroid for nasal allergies. I also get them on high doses of nsaids. I hope you can find a cure. My worst outbreak was seven at once

Gargle with salt water.

Also go to the doctor to check for underlying health conditions- I used to get loads before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease.

Logicalthinker · 18/09/2020 14:43

I suffer from many conditions but one is an autoimmune one with a knock-one one called Lichen Planus which gives me this and more eg the pinprick ones plus I lose all the skin inside my mouth so I can only drink with a straw and can’t eat.
I use a Flixonase fluticasone spray on them, Adult Anbesol gel & Alcohol-free Corsodyl.

Throckmorton · 18/09/2020 14:58

I would definitely see a GP about this just in case.

FatArse123 · 18/09/2020 15:00

I used to get these all the time. I found dabbing bicarbonate of soda on them seemed to numb them for a bit. That is after the initial sting, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

QualityFeet · 18/09/2020 15:01

Use L Lysine and vit B. For us the LLysine has been a product so miraculous it has been life changing. Have met other people with chronic ulcers who is works for too.

DimidDavilby · 18/09/2020 15:03

Salt water as salty as you can handle.

Xyzzzzz · 18/09/2020 15:06

I get mouth ulcers all the time. I’ve always suffered with them. I’ve found sensodyne toothpaste and Difflam mouthwash to be the most helpful

onemouseplace · 18/09/2020 15:10

My Mum was clearly hardcore/ a sadist as she always made me rub neat salt into the actual ulcer - it hurts like anything for a moment, but they would always clear up by the next day.

Blue565 · 18/09/2020 15:15

I used to get moulth ulcer all the time until I switched to a more "normal" boring toothpaste (without a certain additive the gel type ones have)

I get maybe one every 6 months now, if not less

SilverOnToast · 18/09/2020 15:15

I would also check with GP, as it could be autoimmune related. I used to have so many ulcers, but it turned out I had coeliac disease. Since stopping gluten, I haven’t had any.

dingledongle · 18/09/2020 15:16

Switch toothpaste

Also check your immune system is working ok- enhance fruit and veg in your diet

This mouthwash was recommended to me, expensive but good reviews Grin

You can buy small steroid lozenges from the pharmacist but you need to be able keep them on the area of the ulcer while they dissolve and since you’ve got so many it probably wouldn’t work very well.

I’d be visiting the GP to discuss why you’ve got such extensive ulceration, it can be the first sign of some underlying autoimmune conditions.

PinkLegoBrick · 18/09/2020 15:28

Definitely get checked for Coeliac disease.

Mosaic123 · 18/09/2020 15:29

I'd check with your dentist. Experts on the mouth.

StrawberrySquash · 18/09/2020 15:30

I find raw pepper and cucumber soothing when my mouth is bad. I chop up a bowlful and eat.

WeeWelshWoman · 18/09/2020 15:32

It could be your tongue is slightly swollen. This can cause ulcers/ rubbing against your teeth at night. Dehydration and anaemia can both cause this.

student26 · 18/09/2020 15:40

I had terrible ulcers a few months ago. The dr prescribed some numbing spray. What a relief! The ulcer was in my throat so eating was agony. A spray of that and pain was almost gone. See if your Dr can prescribe you some. I’ve changed to Sensodyne so not had any since. I also use the kids bonjela or teething gel as it tastes nicer!

SNStoday · 18/09/2020 15:44

I get serious mouth ulcers.

Agree with Difflam, some form of Hydrogen Peroxide mouth wash and I also have HurriCaine dental gel from the dentist for the worst ones. It's 20% Benzocaine. The 10% ones don't do enough.

Moonfig · 18/09/2020 15:53

It's very expensive, but Gelclair is a Godsend for them. I dont understand how it works but at one point I had 30 (chemo) and it was the only thing that gave me any relief.

Moonfig · 18/09/2020 15:53

Pineapple is meant to help because of the enzymes, i found it too painful to eat though.

choosername1234 · 18/09/2020 16:00

Try a dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen, won't help the actual ulcers but may ease the pain a bit

EBearhug · 18/09/2020 16:05

Massive mouth ulcers were the main symptom I had when I was diagnosed with glandular fever at uni. These days if I get them, it's a sign I'm getting too rundown. As many ulcers as you have, I'd want it checked in case it was a symptom of something else.

HouseOfRunners · 18/09/2020 16:09

It could be reflux, would explain the ulcers too.
