To hate this about MN ...

I do love MN. I really do. But this.

You start a thread asking for advice about something. Someone either misunderstands the situation or starts giving you advice that is in no way possible or practical for your particular set of circumstances. You nicely explain this and you are accused of ignoring helpful advice, you’ve already made your mind up, what was the point of starting the thread ...

Are some posters honestly so arrogant they think their advice is the only correct thing anyone should do in a situation, even when it’s something they know nothing of? Oh and I’ve name changed not to be snarky but so people don’t AS the thread in question, as I so would Grin

Yes.

See also any thread in AIBU that mentions baby sleep while asking a question about something else they actually want advice on: the sleep-training harpies are relentless in their unwanted spouting.

The sleep-training harpies are relentless in their unwanted spouting.

I’m one of said harpies. Sleep training often would fix the issue about which the OP is whingeing. But do something, don’t do something, take my advice or don’t, take decisive action or don’t - no skin off my nose. It’s not my evening being unwillingly spent upstairs with a child trying to get them to sleep when you no longer really want to have to do that any more.

The ones that annoy me are when people are having problems with noisy neighbours. They only want to have a little rant, but you can guarantee some wise old owls suggest they move to a detached house (maybe even in the middle of a field) if they don’t like neighbour noise.
