Just that really, tad too early me thinks....by about 2 months at least!

I know there are bigger issues out there at the moment....failure of COVID testing system, asylum seekers being demonised, wild fires.....I could go on, but really...... do not dress up a Percy Pig in a Santa hat in September!

Thanks for the tip off. Can't wait for a Percy Pig with a Santa hat!! Won't last until Christmas that's for sure...

BrandyandBabycham · 16/09/2020 18:54

I work in The Range & we started putting out Christmas stuff in August. The Halloween stuff has been out ages too. Asda had Christmas cards in August. It’s crazy but that’s retail!

MrsBeltane · 16/09/2020 18:56

Mini stollen bites are in Lidl's. I might bulk buy.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 16/09/2020 18:59

Popped into John Lewis earlier and was rather surprised that there wasn’t a Christmas display!

IHeartSusanDey · 16/09/2020 18:59

My local shops have their Christmas displays out and like PP I think it's because of lockdowns and how people might want to gather things up a little earlier this year. I must say, it raises my spirits to see it.

Derekhello · 16/09/2020 19:06

I work in a well known store and our Christmas department is up and running, it has to be it doesn’t happen overnight and if we waited til December the company wouldn’t make as much money, god forbid 🙄 Halloween was out well before the end of school summer holidays as well 😫

Derekhello · 16/09/2020 19:07

I don’t think it’s to do with a potential lockdown it’s just greed...

mummyofthreemunchkins · 16/09/2020 19:08

Usually it would bother me, however this year I couldn't care less. I popped into a shop the other day and saw tinsel, it brought a smile to my face to have something to look forward to. However the kids were a tad confused when they looked at me with expectations of my yearly rant of 'it's way too early, we haven't even had Halloween yet' but instead got 'ahh, isn't that nice'

movingonup20 · 16/09/2020 19:10

They are selling stollen with an expiry of 31 October 20 here - hardly getting ahead for Christmas!

timetest · 16/09/2020 19:12

Christmas puds in Tesco today. Yummy.

SomewhereEast · 16/09/2020 19:13

I'm usually a For-The-Love-Of-God-wait-till-December person, but this year I could use a bit of joy!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/09/2020 19:14

My mum
Pointed out the Christmas display in M&S today as well.

CloudyVanilla · 16/09/2020 19:25

I agree it's a privilege to not have to worry about spreading the cost of Christmas. Traditionally I need at least 3 pay days to cover Christmas so would usually be shopping in a couple of weeks. I now have the benefit of being able to save weekly throughout the year in a savings scheme but there are obviously still loads of people who tend to start shopping in September once back to school/summer holiday costs are out the way.

I like how the stores tend to keep a discreet corner though. Although I have to admit to being a major crimbophile and I do start planning in summer in conjunction with planning Autumn birthdays for my DC. Not long to go now Grin

CatBatCat · 16/09/2020 19:52

I picked up mini stollen in Lidl today. Nice to have the Christmas treats for our summer holiday.b

TheSeedsOfADream · 16/09/2020 19:53

I've nearly finished.
And it's 35 degrees here and the kids haven't gone back to school yet.

Blingismything · 16/09/2020 21:06

Get the glittery gin before it sells out like last year!

AnneOfCleavage · 17/09/2020 09:02

HelloChompy you're on 😂 Great name for helping me out 🤣

HowFastIsTooFast · 17/09/2020 09:08

Is it a permanent display (in which case yes too soon) or a bit of flash marketing to remind people to start thinking about getting their Christmas food orders in early?

I once spent a hot day in August delivering boxes of homemade mince pies to offices, to remind them about booking their Christmas party at the place I worked. Obviously the restaurant wasn't decorated until actual Christmas...

GoingBackTo505 · 17/09/2020 09:16

But this happens every year in the shops?! How can you be so shocked by it? As soon as Christmas is done and the sales are over, they get their summer clothes and swimwear in, not stuff you'd be wearing at that time of year, but that's how it's always been. Some people need more than a month to plan/save/buy for Christmas.

TheSeedsOfADream · 17/09/2020 09:18

It's actually quite late.
I'm usually leaving the UK for home in Italy during the first week of September, and have usually come back with bits and bobs of Christmas stuff.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 17/09/2020 09:27

DH brought home hot cross buns from Sainsbury’s today.
Hot X buns available all year round at M&S.Various flavours for part of the year. Chilli & cheese. Mmm, yummy.

megletthesecond · 17/09/2020 09:29

Scott Mills played Mariah yesterday. 🎄

I can't be doing with Xmas until 1st Dec tbh.

notso · 17/09/2020 10:07

Now I don't feel bad that ours has already been eaten GrinFlowers

UniversalAunt · 17/09/2020 10:19

Peppers Pig advent calendars already piled high in local M&S food hall.

OfTheNight · 17/09/2020 10:29

They’re missing the fabulousness of Halloween!! Our house is super spookily decorated and they’ll be up until December when I’ll swap to Christmas!! I think people probably want something jolly to look forward to. Even more so with covid. Winter can seem so dreary so we use every excuse to celebrate Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas!
