They’re missing the fabulousness of Halloween!! Our house is super spookily decorated and they’ll be up until December when I’ll swap to Christmas!! I think people probably want something jolly to look forward to. Even more so with covid. Winter can seem so dreary so we use every excuse to celebrate Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas!

DH brought home hot cross buns from Sainsbury’s today.
Hot X buns available all year round at M&S.Various flavours for part of the year. Chilli & cheese. Mmm, yummy.

It's actually quite late.
I'm usually leaving the UK for home in Italy during the first week of September, and have usually come back with bits and bobs of Christmas stuff.

But this happens every year in the shops?! How can you be so shocked by it? As soon as Christmas is done and the sales are over, they get their summer clothes and swimwear in, not stuff you'd be wearing at that time of year, but that's how it's always been. Some people need more than a month to plan/save/buy for Christmas.

Is it a permanent display (in which case yes too soon) or a bit of flash marketing to remind people to start thinking about getting their Christmas food orders in early?

I once spent a hot day in August delivering boxes of homemade mince pies to offices, to remind them about booking their Christmas party at the place I worked. Obviously the restaurant wasn't decorated until actual Christmas...

I agree it's a privilege to not have to worry about spreading the cost of Christmas. Traditionally I need at least 3 pay days to cover Christmas so would usually be shopping in a couple of weeks. I now have the benefit of being able to save weekly throughout the year in a savings scheme but there are obviously still loads of people who tend to start shopping in September once back to school/summer holiday costs are out the way.

I like how the stores tend to keep a discreet corner though. Although I have to admit to being a major crimbophile and I do start planning in summer in conjunction with planning Autumn birthdays for my DC. Not long to go now

Usually it would bother me, however this year I couldn't care less. I popped into a shop the other day and saw tinsel, it brought a smile to my face to have something to look forward to. However the kids were a tad confused when they looked at me with expectations of my yearly rant of 'it's way too early, we haven't even had Halloween yet' but instead got 'ahh, isn't that nice'

I work in a well known store and our Christmas department is up and running, it has to be it doesn’t happen overnight and if we waited til December the company wouldn’t make as much money, god forbid 🙄 Halloween was out well before the end of school summer holidays as well 😫

My local shops have their Christmas displays out and like PP I think it's because of lockdowns and how people might want to gather things up a little earlier this year. I must say, it raises my spirits to see it.

I work in The Range & we started putting out Christmas stuff in August. The Halloween stuff has been out ages too. Asda had Christmas cards in August. It’s crazy but that’s retail!
