@mamanrose I think you are being slightly picked on - your comment was nowhere near as bad as the PP who said pregnant women were disgusting! But I think the reason it has struck a nerve is that unlike most of the other irritants identified on this thread (infants in head bows, leggings, closing curtains etc) the decision to formula feed is usually a difficult one that parents are pushed into either because they don’t feel they have an alternative, or because the alternative is, for them, much worse. I accept there may be some mothers who could easily breastfeed but choose not to because of apparently superfluous reasons, but that is rare. It’s much more commonly the result of pain / lack of support / poor supply / tongue tie / need to work, etc.
That’s why people are hurt. You’re presenting it as a selfish choice, when for most women it doesn’t feel like a choice at all.
Well put. In hindsight I agree that there is a lack of education around breastfeeding and I also feel like it is presented as simply a choice whether to breastfeed or not without the explanation of the benefits of breastfeeding. However I still feel as though many mothers do choose to formula feed as it is easier** and as stated, use an excuse such as low supply. Personally I know a good amount of mothers who have told me it is easier to formula feed as that is why do so.
Also many of the other comments are sly digs at the working class such as baby names, fake tans and use of language. Most working class people have been brought up in working class families and although social mobility is possible, there are a lack of opportunities in working class communities.
And finally, if you are going to be offended maybe you shouldn't have started reading this thread!
