People latching onto phrases like 'virtue signalling' and misusing them

OldEvilOwl · 17/09/2020 14:02

I didn't realise I was so annoying until I read this thread

JoeGrundyWasMyRoleModel · 17/09/2020 14:09

@tsmainsqueeze

People who say - can i get ? ie in a bar, coffee shop . People who show their hauls on you tube , how can they afford it ? , where do they put it ? - and yet i find them strangely fascinating . The people who live in a house at the back of my garden that have dark blinds at every window that are never ,ever open, even in a heatwave , windows shut too .
It's a cannabis farm.

Goslowlysideways · 17/09/2020 14:16

People who let their children use scooters in shopping centres.

Goslowlysideways · 17/09/2020 14:17

People who write names

spikyplants · 17/09/2020 14:19

I've been guilty of what @ALLIS0N mentioned from time to time, and the four boobs thing Blush

More from me -

Shiny glass bedside tables, etc. Too blingy and would be a nightmare to keep fingerprint free
Cracked heels on display (yuck), usually accompanied by unmaintained toenails (double yuck)
Neighbours singing along badly to their music with their windows open
Overly staged "professional" family photos
LinkedIn

5longdaystogo · 17/09/2020 14:21

People who cross a road pushing a pram instead of going to a pedestrian crossing, really winds me up theyre putting a child in danger

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 17/09/2020 14:23

Adults who dont work much but their parents have bought them a house, supplement their income & pay for nannies & private school fees for their children. A surprising number of people where I live are like this.

Neighbours singing along badly to their music with their windows open

I was in a Dirtying Dancing mood a month or so ago, so I put the sound track on while I was having an elongated shower/epilating/maintenance spell in the bathroom. Naturally I needed to sing, and to stop the mirror fogging I had the window open.

It was only when I went outside to hang my towel on the line that I saw the neighbours were having a BBQ and had probably been subjected to my every caterwaul!

onlinelinda · 17/09/2020 14:52

People volunteering other people in their extended family to do jobs for others, in order to make themselves look good.
@ScarMatty
I gave birth during lockdown with no health visitors/midwife support to a baby with tongue tie. I understand it is hard but it is a choice to give in and choose formula when there are so many benefits for your tiny newborn baby to persevere. Only a very tiny minority of mothers have a low supply after a few weeks
This really is very narrow minded. I am very pro breastfeeding and anti formula but fed my child formula milk after 4 months breastfeeding and then using up everything I had in the freezer milk wise. I had trouble initially getting her to latch and then with supply and I worked bloody hard to get my supply up and to store milk. When I returned to work I just dried up. I think it was perhaps a combination of the stress and missed feeds (I tried my best to pump when I would usually feed but a. I always got less out using a pump than using a breastbud while feeding and b. I have the sort of job where there are long periods of the day during which I actually cannot breastfeed). I absolutely tried to stave off formula by combo feeding using my stored milk to eek it out, while trying my best to get my supply up but it wasnt happening and then lockdown hit and my stress increased well and truly ending my supply.

It was very much not through want of trying and you really should broaden your mind.

Do you know what, I've read this comment now - missed it before - and understand you better now.

I'll add one to this thread - people who don't RTFT 😉

also people who click to quote someone's comment and then fail to check if it has actually worked therefore do not actually link to the comment they're referencing.

@grumpymacgrumpface

Ordering by reading the entire description of a dish not just the summary (I.e. asking for the "pan-fried sea bass with samphire just, braised cabbage and new potatoes". Just ask for the sea bass, the serving staff will know what you mean)

I have to admit I'm sometimes tempted to do this when the description is particularly pretentious.

Hahahaha I've had to teach my husband to not do this. Unless there are two pork dishes, in which case ask for the 'roast pork' or the 'pork and cabbage' or whatever. Never more than 2/3 words!

Boris's hair

AfolMummy · 17/09/2020 15:33

I feel like posting a comb to 10 Downing St

ImANosyNeighbour · 17/09/2020 15:36

@AfolMummy - Yes, I agree re: Boris’s hair comb, I’ll pay half the cost!
It looks just as bad now as it did in lockdown, how is it possible with the money and resources he has?!

TheQueef · 17/09/2020 15:40

Boris hair is utterly aggravating.
I bet it's just part of the 'Boris' character and at home Al combs his hair.
