Bedtimes and pc time

To have a 10 30pm bedtime for my 14yr old ,year 10 son?
He thinks that all his friends go to bed way later !
He's also limited to two hours per night (mon-thurs )to game which he also thinks is unreasonable!
Am I out of touch or is he just trying it on?

I don't think the bedtime is unreasonable but I think the gaming restriction is. What does he do the rest of the time when it's raining etc?

DD (14, year 10) hands her phone in/ turns off devices at 10.30, meaning she's usually in bed by 11. She doesn't have to get up too early as school local (7.45) so seems enough time for sleep.

She doesn't fame though but is online with lots of people. There's ALWAYS another kid who stays up later....

I think the way to show him he is reasonable is to give yourself a two hour phone limit too

I think the gaming limit is fine?! Kids occupied themselves in the rain long before the advent of computers. He can read, do puzzles, play board or card games. Too much screen time is addictive.

2 HOURS of gaming a night! Well, he's lucky because that sounds a ridiculous amount to me.

I personally prefers my kids to have hobbies, after school sports and friends, and once you add homework, diner, shower (and that can be a fight by itself...), they are better off pottering around and don't have that much free time anyway.

Around here, to the great disgust of many teens, parents seem to agree about a ban on gaming during the week - at least school week. It wouldn't change my views, but it does make it easier to say "no" as it's a standard no Grin
