To think there's a serious lack of risk assessment at Hogwarts?

Just rewatching the films today, and honestly the school should've been closed down. The teachers are deeply irresponsible.

The one that really gets me is when they say Harry has to compete In the Triwizard Tournament because his name came out the goblet. I mean, if the teachers has said no, what would've happened? And sending 11 year olds into a forest at night when they know something in there is killing unicorns as a form of detention?

AIBU to think the magical Ofsted would've had them closed down a long time before the 90s?

@Itsmybirthday19, properly made me snort 😁

rosegoldivy · 15/09/2020 06:02

@itsmybirthday19 hands down you win the thread 😂😂😂

Bellesavage · 15/09/2020 06:10

In most schools the pta would have hounded Harry out, he's so disruptive. Any issue or weird goings on, it's Harry to blame and it essentially ruins all tuition for the entire school every year. The celeb status would have soon worn thin if he was at dd's school.

CherryValanc · 15/09/2020 06:21

Don't think you could have qualified teachers. Go to wizard teacher school and train for x amount of years and there's no vacancy after you finish, because there's one school and no teacher seems to leave or retire. Except DADA., which is cursed. Not great career prospects.

Bellesavage · 15/09/2020 06:23

There must be other schools, like a rough comprehensive somewhere

AppleKatie · 15/09/2020 07:13

I love that video about American public school ‘hogwarts’.

There’s a series in there somewhere definitely!

CherryValanc · 15/09/2020 19:04

Think there was only three wizarding schools in Europe. No idea what happens is you dont have the money for fees

(Was there fees for Hogwarts? There must have been - even if just food and board!! )

The Weasley's were supposed to be poor, weren't they?

Another thing comma wizard the supposed to live a long time. So why do they get married so young? Harry's parents got married in early 20s. And I think Mr and Mrs Weasley well very young too.

CherryValanc · 15/09/2020 19:06

Has made me think of something else. Where there any witches or wizards divorced or single parents?

To be fair they put their time to good use producing mini Weasleys.

honeygirlz · 15/09/2020 20:40

Totally agree about the Triwizard. Letting an underage child take part was bad. Plus Fleur’s sister would have died if Harry didn’t save her.
And if the adults would have saved her if Harry couldn’t / or it was just a lookalike sister then it’s not as scary a tournament as they make out.

Don't be silly, this isn't Disney Grin

I find it really weird how incompetent Voldemort's henchmen are. The deatheaters are just like regular henchmen who can't shoot for shit. They're up against kids for god's sake!

Timinfuckingruislip · 15/09/2020 20:45

At a basic level the sorting hat must be an absolute hotbed of headlice.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/09/2020 20:48

Xenophillius was a single dad. He was a widower not a divorcee though.

They wouldn't have let Fleurs sister die. They (or at least Harry) are told that in the book after the task, unless I imagined that bit . They had to make them think it was possible though otherwise the champions wouldn't have even tried.

A lot of the plot holes people come up with (and I'm not saying there aren't any) are because people have only seen the films.

AppleKatie · 15/09/2020 21:06

I’m not sure I agree with this. I mean it’s basically an inter-school sport competition and kids care about those without the threat of loved ones drowning 😅

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/09/2020 21:09

Well that's true! But you might worry a bit more about a time limit if you think a loved one might die!

KeepingPlain · 15/09/2020 21:26

2. Snape is a former death eater. He'll probably be fine to shape young minds. Replace "death eater" with "terrorist". Yeah, should be fine.

I love Harry Potter, but this made me laugh so much. 😂

Solina · 15/09/2020 21:34

I do think the worst part is the abuse from Dursleys. If you read the books it is just horrid what they did to Harry.

I have been watching the films too and wondered if anyone ever though about this; Harry did not need to go and try to save the stone in the first book/film. The mirror would have never given the stone to Voldemort. If anything he risked the stone getting stolen by managing to get it from the mirror. But also what the hell were they thinking with all the puzzles as protection for it if 3 first years could get past them. Surely there were better ways to protect the stone??

AppleKatie · 15/09/2020 21:45

There must have been better ways to hide the stone - it was successfully hidden for 600 hundred odd years before Dumbledore got his hands on it.

Only reasonable assumption is that Dumbledore was laying a trap and deliberately got Harry involved.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/09/2020 22:10

I just watched them all again a few weekends ago (in bed ill) I noticed exactly the same things. Also why why why at the very end is there a battle that takes place in a school where one side is made up of adults, giants, dementors etc and the other side is mainly consists of children, with a few teachers!

I have thought this too.

Ok, fair point. Sorry!!

No school fees at Hogwarts... The Ministry of Magic funds the schooling for all.
OrigamiOwl · 15/09/2020 22:43

Seamus Finnigan comes from a single parent household.

Although definitely in the minority there. Seems everyone at Hogwarts meets the love of their lives before the age of 15 and that's them for life.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/09/2020 23:01

Seamus Finnigan comes from a single parent household.

Does he? He's a half blood, but doesn't say his parents are divorced.
I wonder if divorce isn't really acceptable in the wizard world hence they all seem to have married parents. Not sure how they all meet the love of their life whilst so young though. Ive had nothing but heartbreak so I'm a little jealous Grin

Akire · 15/09/2020 23:01

There’s not one child with a Disability either. Totally equal ops there! No PE though they must get a good step count in every day. Surely they need to do something to burn off all those amazing meals?

Really annoys me that they make a big thing about buying school books for Ron and Ginny. How many standard books of spells grade one can one family need to buy! By the time Ginny gets there’s 6 copies at home.

The common rooms must be full of cat/rat/owl/toad poo. No animal tries to eat another apart from Book 2 so least that’s something.
