Is it just me, or is anyone else irrationally annoyed with the phrase 'Rule of six'

Yes I understand. No more than 6 people meeting. And I will adhere to it etc., but the phrase 'Rule of six' pisses me off. Its so annoying. I can imagine people quoting it in tel life and me wanting to punch them.

Lighthearted - before I get piled on.

Yep- can't put my finger on why- but it makes me cringe!

HRoosevelt · 13/09/2020 16:50

Me too!

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/09/2020 16:50

Yes it’s bollocks. They love a buzzword to make you for lack of actual leadership.

ProfYaffle · 13/09/2020 16:51

The whole Three Word Slogan strategy annoys me. Like our tiny minds will explore if they nudge it up to 4 Hmm

Duvetdweller · 13/09/2020 16:51

I’m convinced they decided groups of 6 was the way forward precisely because someone came up with the slogan first

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/09/2020 16:53

Everyone I hear it I think of " The Sign of Four" (Sherlock Holmes novel)

HappilyHoppily · 13/09/2020 16:54

Definitely not unreasonable. But we’re all too stupid to understand full sentences according to our glorious leaders.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2020 16:57

I was thinking about this too.

If it were:
No more than 6 people to for no more than 6 hours in a space no smaller than 6m x 6m* with no more than 6 types of savoury snack...
or something, it would make sense.

But it's easy enough to understand "Don't meet up in groups bigger than 6 people".
A catch phrase isn't necessary.

*I actually have no idea how big this is - I was just going with the 6 thing.
I suppose it's somewhere between the Albert Hall and a mouse hole.

(I was going to say "... and a broom cupboard". But this is MN, and I don't want to be tiny-broom-cupboard shamed.)

RepeatSwan · 13/09/2020 16:57

I hate it, Johnson sounds like a prat every time he uses these slogans.

It's such a serious issue, I'm sick of it being treated light-heartedly by the PM.

Faircastle · 13/09/2020 16:58

It sounds like the title of a dystopian YA novel. One of a series. The one before it is called "The Regulation of Five". The one after it is "The Law of Seven".

1Morewineplease · 13/09/2020 16:59

I inwardly shudder every time I hear it.

AnneKipanki · 13/09/2020 17:02

Ah ... the joy of six 😂

AuntyPasta · 13/09/2020 17:04

It reminds me of Charmed and the power of 3.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/09/2020 17:05

YES! See also "Hands, Face, Space" Angry

GetUpAgain · 13/09/2020 17:06

Yes, its because I'm childish and think of the Joy of Sex. I also sniggered at the Eat Out thing obvs.

TinySleepThief · 13/09/2020 17:06

So not just you!

I keep thinking it sounds like some poncy dieting mantra. E.g the rule of 6 means you must chew each mouthful 6 times or have no more than 6 different foods on a plate.

I'm writing the spin-off series.

Maybe the next campaign will be about cleaning door handles and they will call it Wipe Your Knob.

Thank you! I've been trying so hard to remember what it reminds me of, been driving me bonkers!

It also sounds like a bad horror movie plot.

Jigglyjugs · 13/09/2020 17:11

it just sounds so smug and 'I told you so' , if you get what I mean. The sort goody two shoes will sing song at you, even if you had a genuine reason to break the rules, just for a millisecond.
"Maybe the next campaign will be about cleaning door handles and they will call it Wipe Your Knob."
Amazing 😂

HeIenaDove · 13/09/2020 17:13

Rule of Six sounds like it could be a title for a dystopian drama.

🤣🤣🤣
TriciaMcMillan · 13/09/2020 17:19

@GetUpAgain that is GENIUS and you clearly have inside knowledge. I shall get the t shirts printed immediately to be ahead of the curve on it.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 13/09/2020 17:20

Joy of Six in our house too.
