To report neighbour’s having a party?

WilsonMilson · 13/09/2020 15:57

I’m currently waiting for Covid test results for my child who is off school with what I hope is a bad cold, but also had a high fever for 2 days so required testing. We are obviously isolating because of that.

Meanwhile, a neighbour along the street is currently having a party this afternoon. A bouncy castle has been put up and there are around 10 cars sitting outside, so goodness knows how many people are there, must be at least 20.

Current restrictions here limit to 6 people. And yet my neighbour clearly couldn’t give a fuck, and as a result we may all suffer by spreading and continuing this endless misery.

I don’t want to be a killjoy, but I feel like reporting it, and yet I don’t want to be ‘that’ person, it’s bad enough we can’t live a normal life at the moment without adding more grief. What would you do?

YABU - don’t report, we are becoming a police state, live and let live etc etc
YANBU - neighbour is a dick, report away.

The apostrophe in the title is annoying me. Before the grammar police turn up, I do realise it shouldn’t be there.

I wouldn’t report but I would think neighbour is a dick.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 13/09/2020 16:00

There are some things I would report, but a kids birthday party isn't one of them.

kevinn · 13/09/2020 16:01

If I'm honest I'm just here for the rogue apostrophe. Sorry, OP Grin

Needallthesleep · 13/09/2020 16:03

Until this point I’ve thought no we shouldn’t be reporting things like this...

...but I’m fed up now. I know the rules don’t make sense, I know it’s bollocks, but we are all making sacrifices and I think people should respect the rules so we can get this over as soon as possible. I’ve lost my job as a result of Covid, I’m pregnant and my husband hasn’t been able to come to any scans, so the least someone can do is not have a huge party.

FlamingoAndJohn · 13/09/2020 16:03

Hmmm.
How many adults are there?
We keep being told that children don’t transmit and in Scotland and Wales children under, I think, 11 don’t count towards group numbers.

binkyblinky · 13/09/2020 16:03

My neighbours over the road had a party of about 30 people on Friday. For an adult's 40th. I can believe how stupid and selfish they are

WilsonMilson · 13/09/2020 16:04

@kevinn I knew there’d be one! Grin

The rule of 6 only comes into force tomorrow.

Nanalisa60 · 13/09/2020 16:05

No, the new six rule does not start till Monday!!

WorraLiberty · 13/09/2020 16:07

The OP has said Current restrictions here limit to 6 people.

So they're obviously in a restricted area.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2020 16:10

The apostrophe might be okay.
You say in your OP that "a neighbour" is having a party.
Hence the title could mean:
"AIBU...To report neighbour - singular - is having a party".

It's a bit telegraphic in style as it lacks a "my" or "our" before "neighbour's" but it could work, imo.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2020 16:11

So, I vote YANBU in your use of apostrophes.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/09/2020 16:12

Doesnt it depend when you live in the uk, every country is different.

Onxob · 13/09/2020 16:12

I think reporting is unnecessary. The rules are so arbitrary and it's going to spread regardless and I think at this stage people are just fed up with it all. I'm not deliberately flouting the rules but I don't really care what people do at this stage, can't see it makes a huge difference.

I appreciate I might feel different if I had a family member who was very vulnerable.

Just file the neighbour in your dickhead category and move on OP.

ameliajoan · 13/09/2020 16:13

YANBU. I would not hesitate to report.

If they’re going to take the risk on this sort of thing then they have to face the consequences if they’re caught.

LagunaBubbles · 13/09/2020 16:13

The OP says current restrictions where she is limit is 6, so why are people challenging this?

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/09/2020 16:14

I believe in Karma

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/09/2020 16:15

Where is a current limit of 6?

Timeforabiscuit · 13/09/2020 16:17

Depends,

If it was a neighbour who was routinely a pain to live with, I'd report. If it was a nice one who watered plants, I wouldn't.

This is why I am not suited to law enforcement, among many other things!

CatsArePeopleToo · 13/09/2020 16:18

YABU

vjg13 · 13/09/2020 16:20

Report, ring 101

TheSmallAssassin · 13/09/2020 16:21

In England until midnight guidelines are 6, law is 30. So no point in reporting anyone yet.

Florencex · 13/09/2020 16:27

There is nothing to report. The six limit only comes in on Monday and Scotland and Wales don’t include children even then.
