Have you given up all hope of a holiday this year? Anyone hoping to go away in the October half term? Just interested on peoples thoughts

OP posts:
Florencex · 13/09/2020 15:55

Yes given up now. I cancelled the two we had planned, I booked a consolation short trip but my flight was cancelled so I have cancelled the rest of the trip now.

I am hoping to get a couple of nights in the UK in December.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 15:56

Still planning to go for a few days in Oct, yes.

DrunkOnEther · 13/09/2020 15:59

I’ve given up. There’s too much chopping and changing with quarantine rules both in UK and abroad. And even within UK, with local lockdowns happening. Why spend thousands going somewhere only to have everything closed?

I’ve just cancelled our hotel booking abroad for Dec. We’ve decided we’re just going to save everything now, either for a rainy day or for a huge holiday in a few years’ time.

Lilybet1980 · 13/09/2020 16:01

Given up and looking at UK breaks only. Have a Spanish holiday booked for Easter which is the one we moved from this Easter. We haven’t rearranged any of our other trips yet.

tiredanddangerous · 13/09/2020 16:03

Given up. Don't want to book something and lose my money if it can't go ahead. I'm assuming at this point there'd be zero chance of insurance paying out.

Friendsoftheearth · 13/09/2020 16:04

Booked Florence, and along with everything else we won't be going. Italy just moved onto the amber list, and I have absolutely no confidence either side of the channel is safe or anywhere else for that matter. I am getting increasingly concerned about the infection rate increasing everywhere. Now looking at a UK break, pref something over halloween as that we can't do anything this year.

Friendsoftheearth · 13/09/2020 16:05

Looking at having my bathroom updated instead :) so at least it is money well spent and won't be wasted.

LowLou · 13/09/2020 16:10

There's certainly a chance but basically everythingbis subject to change and cancellation. Even going to your local.pub tomorrow night isn't a given anymore.

Whether you go or Boris how prepared you are to suck up cancellation or changes.

Personally I've written off doing anything 2020 and the first half of 2021. For me that works best for mental.well being. If by chance I wale up one day and decide I'm happy to make plans I will.

NastyBlouse · 13/09/2020 16:13

I've got something in the UK booked for the end of October but I'm half-assuming we won't be going. Luckily it's cancellable and refundable.

I've also cancelled all our tentative Christmas plans and am planning for a quiet Christmas at home (which will be really nice, actually).

I've booked a couple of nice things for next year, late spring onwards. UK again. So we're just hunkering down and looking forward to that at the moment. I may be being overly cautious but I'm working under the assumption that going abroad next year will be a) risky; b) difficult; and c) expensive so I'm not bothering.

Currently planning a big abroady type thing for autumn 2022.

Meredusoleil · 13/09/2020 16:17

We had our holiday in August. Glad we did tbh, even though there were some worrying moments, but no plans to go anywhere else now including within the UK m, until at least next summer! Way too much uncertainty especially after final Brexit at the end of the year 😬

JamSarnie · 13/09/2020 16:19

Only risking a uk holiday and watching closely for any new restrictions. If they mess around with more then I will be cancelling that one as well.

AuntieMarys · 13/09/2020 16:20

I can't be doing with the stress of booking something which could be cancelled.
We've lost 3 holidays this year....2 abroad and 1 here but all refunded.
I'm hoping for May next year.
We have awning 2 city breaksin this country next month...no big deal if we can't go

Emma1962 · 13/09/2020 16:21

No not this year. We were lucky to get a week near Whitby in August. Currently looking at a week in Northumberland for May. Not sure about next August. Would love to get to France/Greece or Portugal but I’m not counting on it. Will probably make a last minute plan.

cafesandbookshops · 13/09/2020 16:22

I wanted to go to Christmas markets in Germany but not sure what to do. I’m keeping an eye on the news for Germany to see how the situation is there and will probably decide in October.

BlueJava · 13/09/2020 16:23

Yes, given up all hope of going away this year. Would like to go away at Xmas but will wait and see what happens.

Sexnotgender · 13/09/2020 16:23

I’ve got flights booked to cork which should have been in October and has been moved to April but unfortunately I’m now pregnant and due the day after the wedding (shhh he doesn’t know yet).

I thought oh maybe I’ll use them as I won’t get a refund except the taxes which is shit. Looked at Ireland and you need to quarantine for 14 days on arrival 😫😫

Sexnotgender · 13/09/2020 16:23

Sorry the flights were for the wedding. Missed that bit!

1questionshootout · 13/09/2020 16:25

Have had several long weekends nearby (staycation if you like, but we were not in our own home). They were definitely holidays, and we will be doing more similar in the future, restrictions permitting.

BarefootHippieChick · 13/09/2020 16:29

No, August holiday abroad was cancelled and luckily refunded, have kids in school so won't be risking abroad at half term. Hoping to book early next year for next summer. I think by then travel will be easier as hopefully countries will have plenty of time over winter to figure out how we can safely move around without the threat of sudden quarantine. I live in hope!

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2020 16:29

We have a UK break booked for October half term. Fingers crossed.

Mindymomo · 13/09/2020 16:29

We are off to the Isle of Wight in a couple of weeks, transferred from July. We didn’t have the option of transferring it to next year so put it off as long as we could. Next years prices are out and are doubled to that of this year, so will wait and see what happens but certainly not going to pay silly prices just to get away.

cliffdiver · 13/09/2020 16:32

We had Cape Verde booked for October (booked in January), it was cancelled last week.

Also have a UK break booked for between Christmas and NY. I'm optimistic that will go ahead.

Our August holiday (UK) went ahead, but was subject to changes due to restrictions.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/09/2020 16:32

No, not bothering to book anything. Not because of the uncertainty of cancelling but because travel just feels way too risky and wouldn’t be enjoyable. Rather save and do more once its safe.

rookiemere · 13/09/2020 16:37

Due for a couple of nights away with friends next weekend in Newcastle - amended from Krakow, although at the moment I think Polish infection rates are lower than UK. Fingers crossed I still get to do that.

Just had to cancel UK october break as although it met previous guidelines of 2 households, there are too many people for new guidelines. To be honest although it's disappointing, it's better than the highly probable situation that one party would be in a local lockdown. We're hoping to go and visit some different relatives for a few nights, but not pinning any great plans to it.

MozzchopsThirty · 13/09/2020 16:39

We've just come back from Italy and are planning Dubai in November
