To bring my own stuff or use theirs? Don't know what to do

I’m starting my cleaning business in couple of weeks, something I wanted to do for a long time. I just can’t decide whether to buy my own products or use the clients. I’ve read and watched YouTube videos about how to start the business, some say bring your own products others say clients wants you to use their products. I don’t know what to do, any MNers who are cleaners or are clients themselves can advise me on this? I’m ok with both, obviously using the clients products would make things easier as I don’t have a car.

I'd suggest just asking your clients.

Some might have a preference for environmental reasons, or because they have asthma or because they just hate the smell of particular products.

Sjl479 · 13/09/2020 13:02

I prefer my cleaner to use my products which I’m comfortable are suitable for use on specific surfaces, I like the smell, eco friendly etc. Have some of your own handy in case they don’t have everything you need

I'd have your own stuff available but use the client's stuff if they prefer.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/09/2020 13:06

I would ask what they want. Say you have your own products but will use theirs if they prefer.

Allywill · 13/09/2020 13:06

my cleaner uses her own plus own vacuum cleaner. she said she prefers this as sometimes the products people supply are inferior and don’t do as good a job as her stuff. then people complain it’s not sparkling 🤷‍♀️agree if people have a strong preference then you should use theirs.

Ask the individual client, I have a cleaner, she also does laundry. When she first started and I stated I want my own products to be used she went through the cleaning cupboards with me and asked how/where I used them.

Florencex · 13/09/2020 13:08

When I have had a clearer, I have always supplied the products. The cleaner would leave me a note if they are running short or need something else.

PegasusReturns · 13/09/2020 13:11

My cleaner uses my products. I know these are the right products for the various surfaces I have in my home.

Unless the cleaner was very experienced I’d be wary about them using their own.

fabulousathome · 13/09/2020 13:15

My cleaner uses her own cloths but my products.

Inaseagull · 13/09/2020 13:25

If you don't have a car, then don't ask what they would prefer, they may well ask you to provide everything! Not to mention bringing your own stuff will eat into your profit margin. Good luck with your business!

Didn't even think about asking the client before coming to their house Blush but yeah I'll start using their products and have mine in case they want me to use my own products.

If you don’t have a car just use the clients things. I’m a cleaner and use my own stuff and it’s a heavy caddy full of stuff. You wouldn’t want to be lugging that around on buses and walking to and fro different houses all day.
