DS with a cold.

DS has a cold. He's really congested, not sneezing too much - yet. Thankfully no cough or fever. Just a little bothered by his nose. He can't blow his nose.

Do we need to stay in? I'm not saying we are going to go out around lots of people but maybe an early morning walk in the countryside where we don't come close to me. I mean his symptoms started Friday night and it's just a cold..

And school?! Obviously I cannot contact them as it's the weekend. I will have to ring first thing tomorrow.

Are schools expecting children in with colds?!

If he’s not got the symptoms of Covid then he should be able to go to school, if he’s well enough.
However a phone call to discuss if first, so they don’t send him home , might be an idea.

No reason he can’t go out for a walk with the symptoms you’ve described.

School may be a different matter. At the school I work at, clear guidance has been sent to parents telling them to not sending any students who are ill at all.

Spreading respiratory bugs of any sort in a pandemic is really antisocial.

No fever for your son but if he passed it on, another child may have a fever, you may well be condemning another family to 14 day isolation.

Stay in at least until the snot turns green and the sneezing has stopped. Then he is over the worst of the infectiousness.

Also consider that nose blowing is going to be trickier at school and that if he sniffs/let's it go down the back of his throat he is more likely to start coughing and you isolating.

We choose to keep DD out for an extra day compared to pre covid and will do again if she gets another cold.

I'd send him in.

How much school will DC miss if they all stay off for just being snotty?

bumble79 · 13/09/2020 07:48

Thank you. I've re read the info the school sent by email and it says they only need to stay home if they have the main symptoms but I'll ring them. Tbh DS really struggles with snot so I'll probably keep him off for a day or two. I assume I can send my other child in if they are fine? 🤷‍♀️

So many schools are saying different things. A friend of mine had similar a week or so ago. Different school to ours but her school told her to send them in if snotty but nothing else!
