Is it normal to fart in your sleep?

I was woken by a phone call at 4.45 this morning and haven't been able to get back to sleep. I am now lying here is bed listening to DH sleeping peacefully, with occasional gentle parps emitting from his backside. Farting in one's sleep has never really occurred to me (and I would have now way of knowing if I do it myself!) so I was wondering how common it is? (and also thinking what odd things you think about while lying awake in the early hours!)

I shared a bed with my friend after a night out and she says I farted a lot in my sleep. I was so worried the first few tubes i ever stayed with anyone. Now me and DH are just loud and proud round each other.

@Rosebel

Yes think it's normal. My husband does so I expect I do too. What I find strange is that my husband can't multi task even in his sleep. Every time he stops snoring it's so he can fart. When he's stopped farting it's back to snoring.
This really made me laugh!

This is the best thing I've read in ages 😂🤣😂

If OP is a doctor senior enough to be on call then I'm slightly worried!

Yes it's entirely normal.

This thread is gold. The word 'fartle' as in 'to fartle oneself awake' needs to be in the dictionary.

@instaglow

I have a new boyfriend and im soooo worried about farting in my sleep, I barely sleep!

Then I'm exhausted the next day and have the worst stomach pains. Horrific 😂

Me too.

I thought I'd done an amazing job of not farting in my sleep for the six or so months we've been together, until DP told my kids that I fo indeed fart in my sleep Grin

I was mortified...until he let rip on my leg in his sleep the other morning.

You could give example sentences like I'm up early because I fartled myself awake at 5 am!

@Pobblebonk it seems to be independent of diet - when we met we were omnivores, then we became veggie, then vegan for a few years, now veggie again. The one constant in our life together is his propensity for horrendous and perpetual farting.
