Last night of the proms practically empty Albert Hall and she carried a nation!

The new arrangement of Jerusalem was great, with the angst in the background closer to Blake’s words (no where near as good as Dickinsons but better than Parry).

She was absolutely fantastic, especially in the Jerusalem reworking.

Slightly distracted by the fact that the bodice of her dress looked too tight mind you - I guess wardrobe fittings are still tricky at the mo.

She was fabulous, deeply impressive. I hated the Jerusalem arrangement, but I don't like the normal one much either or modern free-form jazz type stuff so that's fine. She still carried it with aplomb without needing any approval from me!

She was fabulous, and I think the BBC made the best of the whole situation. Really impressed and in our home we really enjoyed it (while also having a sensible conversation with the DCs about the pros/cons of jingoism).

So good

It was a lovely Last Night, though I missed the middle.

I hadn't heard of Schultz or Dalia Stasevska before (probably shows how out of touch I've become) but will now keep an ear open for both.

I'm confused, as I thought it was the Parry arrangement of Jerusalem, and announced as such. Someone enlighten me?

She sang beautifully but WHAT WAS WITH THE SKIRTS OF HER DRESSES? So distracting! Did she have a choir hiding there? Speakers? The top fitted her really well but then the skirt just ballooned out on both dresses, and not in a good way.

Katie Derham should similarly have words with her stylist. Unless she was deliberately going for the ‘Beverly in Abigail’s Party’ vibe.

To prove that I’m not nasty about everybody’s frocks, Nicola Benedetti looked fabulous.

I thought she was fantastic and it was a wonderful concert!

It was very strange seeing the Albert hall so empty but the BBC had obviously worked hard to adapt to the current circumstances.

DH and I were part of the virtual audience Smile

The nation wasn't watching. The viewing figures don't support that overly dramatic comment.

Bloodybridget · 13/09/2020 01:42

I'd never seen or heard of her before, thought she did a superb performance. Great warmth and connection as well as a wonderful voice.

I mostly despise the schmaltzy faux-sentimentality dished out by the BBC for the Last Night, but a new Errollyn Wallen piece is worth celebrating. It was satisfyingly challenging to listen to, and I didn't get the impression it would have been easy to sing - so yes, Ms Schultz did well.

(As expected I really didn't care for the rest of the programme. Serious saccharine overdose.)
