Turkey twizzlers!!

OKAY. 2020 has been a terrible year. .. Then I see a picture, Turkey twizzlers are back! Things are looking up. I picked up 3 boxes (£7.50 total). Excited, cooked a few for myself and a few others who have awaited their return for a long time..... Well, after cooking them trying to plate them up (stabbing them with a fork to move them to the plates, they unraveled completly and resembled a gross intestine/snake looking thing... After gaining the confidence to try eating them, they were revolting. So the question is...AIBU to think Jamie oliver has invested in Benard Matthews to futher destroy our childhood memories 😂

No they were utterly rank to begin with Grin

DratThatCat · 12/09/2020 00:51

Oh no, I have literally just bought a packet! Which ones did you get, the chilli cheese or original tomato? Im gutted, I was really looking forward to them.

StardewMelons · 12/09/2020 00:53

@Shaniac In that case Id rather have lived not realising that as an adult! Blush lol

@dratthatcat I bought the tomato (original ones) don't worry, some people say they like them. I feel like I am in a paralell universe Confused

I'm sorry but where from? This is one of the best things I've heard all day. (Lead a very boring life and want to relive my childhood)

StardewMelons · 12/09/2020 13:55

@Purpleneonpinkunicorns Iceland. I wouldn't bother though lol. They are not the same somehow

OP posts:
Gancanny · 12/09/2020 14:03

They're not the same because they've removed all the beaks and feet fat and salt.

Back in the day my favourite student snack was a Turkey Twizzler sandwich made with white buttered bread, two Twizzlers, and ketchup.

Haenow · 12/09/2020 14:11

Oh that’s so disappointing. I feel your pain! I was going to try them but I won’t bother now. :(

maras2 · 12/09/2020 14:13

DS now age 38 felt deprived that I never fed him TT's.
Just seen on his FB that he's 'treated' himself, DDIL and DGD to each flavour, with the addition of chips and peas.with obligatory photo.
10 minutes later cue DM type sad faces as they turned out to be 'minging' (his vernacular). Sad
Good job they live just round the corner from Iceland and it's open till 6. Smile

I've never had a turkey twizler. What were the main selling points?

Gancanny · 12/09/2020 14:27

What were the main selling points?

Questionable minced turkey chopped up with cereal, grease, salt, and floor sweepings then shaped into artery clogging "meat" spirals and coated with a tangy day-glo orange BBQ sauce that contains no ingredients found in nature.

Food. Of. The. Gods.

Weren't they made with mechanically separated meat? Yuk.

I can't talk. I love Fray Bentos.

Yes but delicious mechanically separates meat! Wink
MrsTerryPratchett · 12/09/2020 17:46

Yes but delicious mechanically separates meat!

I'm willing to bet it's the fatty, salty, carby other ingredients that make it delicious. The same reason I like cheap sausages, rather than the 100% grain-fed, massaged, heritage pig ones. I clearly love me some sawdust, fat, ears and bollocks. Mmmmmmmm yum.

I wish you could get welfare, free run, eyeballs, bollocks and gristle.

Picklypickles · 12/09/2020 17:51

I don't remember ever having had turkey twizzlers, from the comments here I think I'll give it a miss!

TPS2009 · 12/09/2020 18:46

I saw these today and I don’t have space in the freezer (Turkey Dinosaurs won)
This has well put me off though!

x2boys · 12/09/2020 18:56

I think I'm too old too have them the first time round I'm 46,but Dh bought some last week and they were pretty vile ,I can see why Jamie Oliver had them banned .

Purpleneonpinkunicorns · 13/09/2020 19:29

I've ordered some Blush..I cant help myself and I'm going to go back to my childhood and have them with curly fries and spaghetti hoops haha

Harrysmum2020 · 13/09/2020 21:23

Oh no I’ve been eyeing them up for weeks don’t say that I was actually gonna start my own thread when I first saw them a few weeks ago but couldn’t be asked with the headache Grin

ODFOx · 13/09/2020 21:35

I love turkey as much and probably more than the next person but it is pretty mild/bland.

If they have taken out the fat, salt and seasoning I can imagine why they aren't particularly tasty.

BluePeterVag · 14/09/2020 00:06

I have never had a turkey twizzler and I feel I have missed out, but won’t try them now as have seen fb posts from happy then sad people saying they are horrid now.

My old boss used to call mince “lips and arseholes”.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/09/2020 00:10

I really want some, I love crap Bernard Matthews products.

TPS2009 · 26/09/2020 17:46

Bought some. Tried them. I don’t recall them being so disgusting, omg

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 26/09/2020 17:50

Oh I used to love these - and the Bernard Matthews turkey burgers; the turkey steaks were ok but the burgers had that special something.

Iceland also still sells 'Hamwich'; it's changed a bit but is still the delicious, molten-cheese laden, slab of questionable meat product that it always was.

Bring back the original mini kievs too... Grin
