Can’t get a bloody test

The Covid test situation is a bloody shambles. Have been trying all day (SW London). Nothing. Had three gadgets at the ready at 8pm when they release more. Managed to get a test slot but when I pressed confirm the site crashed and I’d lost it. By 8:05, no tests available.

What do I do? I turned up at a site without an appointment and they wouldn’t let me in. No home test kits available. I could cry it’s so frustrating.

My dd woke with a temp of 37.5 and a runny nose and sore throat. School wouldn't accept her nor ds without negative result. Managed to get a test for this evening 20 miles away. Hopefully will have the result before school on Monday.

I feel really bad though but dh still has to go to work, we can't afford for him to be off and his work have been making it difficult and saying threateningly 'we've got your number' to colleagues who are off. It's made dh worry that if there are redundancy those with days off isolating will be the first to go.

DH (65) is unwell and has a temp of 38. Need a home test because he feels too unwell to drive to our nearest centre (20 miles) and unfortunately I have injured my ankle so can’t drive for a few weeks. Just nothing available. Will keep trying tomorrow.

This happened in Glasgow just after the schools started back. It was a nightmare.
We are now weeks down the line and my wee one got a temperature on a Sunday, we had the choice of postal or airport appointment within an hour. Handed the test in at 4pm , got the result the next day at 10.30. Great service.

Hope the mad rush settles soon for everywhere else.

RedCatBlueCat · 11/09/2020 22:50

Woohoo.
Test booked on Monday. Negative result 10.30 on Friday night.

Good luck to all of you navigating this right now, And many many more test slots and negative results be coming your way in the coming hours.

BloodyBollockingHell · 11/09/2020 22:57

None here either. House full of nhs workers who now all can’t work. Pretty sure DD has a cold (sore throat, snot, cough). No idea what we are supposed to do.

chocolatespiders · 11/09/2020 23:01

We have a test centre 4 miles away. Tried to book today nothing available in this area.
I drive past tonight and no cars in any of the 6 booths. So frustrating

1happyhippie · 11/09/2020 23:05

@BloodyBollockingHell can you not get test through work?
I work in a carehome and we are all tested every week, we still have tests although results are taking longer to come back.
Used to be within 2 days, now it’s four days or more.

ILoveTeeeeeea · 11/09/2020 23:58

Im London based too and was told they release throughout the day, but more around 9am, 12pm and evening. I eventually got home tests just after 12pm.

BloodyBollockingHell · 12/09/2020 00:24

Nope. Have to go through same system as everyone. The broken one.

lockdownconfused · 12/09/2020 07:42

I've tried online they can't verify my identity which is strange as I am definitely me and have given them all my details, have rung 119 5 times in the last 24 hours keep getting through to find there are no tests available by the time they answer the phone. It looks like we will be isolating for 2 weeks instead 😤

RhubarbAndMustard · 12/09/2020 09:28

Can't get one either..Kent based. Have been refreshing since 4ish yesterday. Started again at 6:30 this morning and nothing...no drive through, no walk through, no online. It's ridiculous.

Pud2 · 12/09/2020 11:20
@Pud2 there is a walk in mobile unit at Worlds End tomorrow

There may be a long queue...
Thanks so much for the heads up @mimipie. Successfully got a test at this site. Would never have found it otherwise.

Hooray! Hope you get the result quickly

I only knew about it as another MNer posted about it - the power of MN eh Smile

There’s a rumour you can just turn up at one near us. Also London. Supposedly key worker only, whatever the definition of key worker is...

But you will be sent miles away if you do it the proper way.

Home tests aren’t great, I sent one off Tuesday and still not heard back. Luckily it’s for the tracking app study not symptoms.

They should allow schools their own testing facilities somehow. Kids have already missed out so much.
