What time's dinner?

I hate eating early, particularly on Friday. I need time to unwind from my week. Dd4 (16) likes to eat earlier. I've cooked, she can eat when she wants but it's one tiny bit of my life I can choose. AIBU to want to eat later on a Friday - curry if that makes a difference??

Yanbu, I like to eat at 7-7:30 come the weekends!

LupinsNotLilys · 11/09/2020 20:03

So you've cooked a curry, dd wants to eat now and you want to eat later?

Reader1984 · 11/09/2020 20:04

530, I'm starving!

Raera · 11/09/2020 20:05

YANBU we'll be eating in about 20 minutes, our usual time!

Teacher12345 · 11/09/2020 20:07

I made a stew in the slow cooker tonight. Kids had theirs at 4.30 as they were hungry. I had mine an hour later when I was hungry though I had intended to wait longer.

Why not do something similar so you can both eat when you want?

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 11/09/2020 20:09

To clarify, dd has just eaten. Had a go at me though for not wanting to eat yet as it was nearly 8!! Honestly, it's like my children are the sensible ones and I'm the naughty child sometimes!!

Kids have eaten - was about 7ish. Dh was at football so I've not eaten yet - might get fed around 8.45pm tonight

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 11/09/2020 20:10

We eat as a family (of 4, 2 kids 3&4) at 5pm every day. It means washing up & kitchen is cleaned before kids go to bed so that when they go, hubby & I relax!

Jemma2907 · 11/09/2020 20:12

The kids eat at 5 and we eat at 7.30/8pm. If I ate early, I'd snack all evening! I like eating separately from the children too as its the only meal of the day I get to eat without someone asking me questions or climbing on me!

dementedpixie · 11/09/2020 20:14

we couldn't all eat together at 5pm as dh isn't home from work until around 7pm. Sometimes the kids eat before and sometimes they wait until he's home, depends whats on the menu

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 11/09/2020 20:15

Luckily my kids don't climb on me these days - at 26, 24, 23 and 16 I don't think I'd cope!! Dh used to commute, usually via plane, so Friday was a late chilled night. I like it like that. If I ate out I'd book a table for 8ish - why any different at home?

Absolutely agree that if I ate early I'd be after snacks by 8 o clock!!

Eat when it makes you happy!

Personally I spent decades having dinner at 7/7:30/8 when really all I wanted was my grandparents schedule of having dinner around 5/5:30. On weekends I go wildly off piste and have breakfast at 9 or 10 and lunch about 3 or 4 and that's it!

orangejuicer · 11/09/2020 20:21

We're lucky if we eat before 8.30.

vanillandhoney · 11/09/2020 20:22

DH eats after work around 5pm. I'll eat later - normally around 7-7.30. We eat in the same room, we just do different things.

Eat whenever you like!

User3627290 · 11/09/2020 20:22

I like to eat later now, but as a 16yo I would have been gnawing off my own hand by 8pm.

Susannahmoody · 11/09/2020 20:25

5.30pm

Whatisthisfuckery · 11/09/2020 20:29

When I can be arsed to cook really. Tends to be a bit earlier in the week.

GreyGardens88 · 11/09/2020 20:31

For me ideally 8 pm. I like to get in, kick my shoes off and unwind for an hour or so, possibly with a drink, before I start cooking

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 11/09/2020 20:32

6pm ever since I had dd1 (nearly 12).

Before that it was about 8 or 9!

Anniissa · 11/09/2020 20:39

Can’t imagine ever eating at 5.30/6pm as I’d be starving later in the evening. We tend to eat at 8.15 at the earliest but often 8.30/9ish and on occasions nearer 10pm on a weekend

PileofToss · 11/09/2020 21:02

We always eat at between 6-7, I look forward to it all day and it's the latest I can wait!

If you asked my DP what time he ate dinner, he'd say between 12-1pm - the most confusing thing about marrying someone from the north east is the meal time names! Confused
