To complain to BT

My internet has been playing up and I’m WFH currently so need it working.

Contacted BT and they said they would send an engineer but they would not need to come in the house. I was shielded so this was important.

They said if for any reason the engineer did need to come in extra measures would be taken in view of COVID.

Engineer is now is my house with no extra measures and isn’t even wearing a mask. AIBU to complain? I’m really annoyed but this and he’s touching everything and breathing on everything

That’s awful. I’m not particularly worried about CV but I’d still be annoyed that someone came into my home without a mask/hand sanitiser etc if I’d been promised they would be taking precautions.

catgirl1976 · 11/09/2020 10:17

No sanitiser and no mask and doesn’t seem to understand why I don’t want to stand near him. I know I’m probably more anxious than most because of my health condition but surely it would just be basic health and safety to sanitise and wear a mask and distance

YAB a bit U. Not sure why you let him in at the first place...
why not just to tell him you are shielding and he should be wearing PPE.
And why didn’t you get a confirmation from BT what the enhanced measures would be?

Sometimes people need to take responsibility rather than just coming to MN and moan 😔

From my general experience with BT I would say it is pointless complaining. You'll just be wasting your time. They will do nothing about it. They have the worst customer service of any company I have ever dealt with.

ChaChaCha2012 · 11/09/2020 13:40

Have you asked him to wear a mark and wash his hands?

malmi · 11/09/2020 13:42

YABU to let him in if you're then going to complain about him being in your house

Sorry he was really rude, I wasn't expecting him to come in and I was trying to work and I didn't feel able to confront him as I was really thrown off guard by being in the middle of work, his rudeness and him needing to come in. I also wasn't sure what BT policy on masks was

I have complained and they've confirmed he should have been wearing mask but I doubt they will do much

I had a BT engineer in my house last week. He didn’t wear a mask either and didn’t have any on him.

Bearnecessity · 11/09/2020 18:08

I have been given the same number as a local business by BT and I can't get through to anyone to resolve it and my my wifi cuts out frequently.

roadsurvey · 11/09/2020 18:11

You let him in? I'm sorry but this is no reason to complain and even if you do complain it's too late now anyway.

The fact you were shielded isn't really relevant as it has been paused so nobody is expected or required to take any extra measures.

roadsurvey · 11/09/2020 18:12

Sorry I missed your update. You are right they won't do much. They can't do anything. He has been.
