Were buying a place snd the master has an en suite, i just think that it shouldnt be used for poo's well at bedtime anyway, as otherwise massive mood killer... AIBU? Thoughts?

There is a family bathroom and downstairs WC btw. So plenty of options lol

It's a toilet.
It has a door, I suppose?
Shit away is what I say.

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 09:30

Once saw a photo of a glass toilet on a street where you could see out from the inside but people outside couldn’t see in. Imagine having a poo and watching shoppers walking past.

Livpool · 11/09/2020 09:35

Our last house had 3 toilets - downstairs WC, en-suite and a family bathroom - which we hardly ever used - only to bath DS. Pointless and all needed cleaning. I love just having 1 bathroom now.

I couldn't care less what people do in a toilet - that is their only use! Some of you must have awful diets or digestive issues to have such smelliness 🤷🏼‍♀️

tectonicplates · 11/09/2020 09:43

@cyclingmad

so my point was sounds travels in certain houses! My bedroom is next to the main bathroom I had friend stay over and even with all doors shut I could here her peeing

I need a new house thats got cavity insulation Grin

So? Why does it matter if you can hear it?
ToffeePennie · 11/09/2020 09:47

But why not? I don’t get it?
Our en-suite is used during the day by DH as he works from home, I use downstairs. If he needs a poo come bedtime what difference does it make? I either want sex or not, and if I do, waiting a few moments for him to finish won’t change that.

CatBatCat · 11/09/2020 09:56

If you wouldn't have a crap in your bedroom why would you put a toilet in there?

cyclingmad · 11/09/2020 11:10

@tectonicplates its probably cos I've lived on my own for quite some time and when I house shared I never heard anything.

Even thinking back when I lived at home I dont recall whether I could hear anyone going to the toilet.

I suppose for me it's the fact my neighboirs can probably hear.

Obv I know its all normal and shouldn't be an issue...i think my views screwed cos I've been going to lots of events and the big groups I stay with, people make jokes about it but in a nasty way and then some of them would play music loudly when they went to the bathroom.

LadyCatStark · 11/09/2020 11:27

It depends how big your bedroom and en suite are. There’s no smells coming from ours.

WakingUp55643 · 11/09/2020 11:31

I think the whole idea of en suites is absolutely mental. If I need to go to the toilet, I want to be preferably MILES away from everyone!!!!!! I hate people knowing I'm going to the toilet, never mind being able to hear the action. I never want a house with an en suite. Or a dishwasher, but that's a different story....

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 12:05

I'm not keen on ensuites either. A second shower room somewhere probably sensible in a family home. The only advantage to ensuites I can see is being able to offer guests exclusive use of a bathroom.

pleasecaffeinateme · 11/09/2020 12:11

I haven't read the full thread but yes I completely agree that en-suites shouldn't be for number 2's! Our en-suite doesn't have a window so it's even more of a reason not to use it but DP still does😫drives me insane. We have a perfectly good family bathroom with a lovely window to open but noooo, the en-suite is preferred!🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

rosie1959 · 11/09/2020 12:17

Can imagine the answer I would get if I told my DH you cant sit and have a nice quiet poo in the en suite
He would think I was totally batshit

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/09/2020 12:20

@ThunderSkies

I suppose causing an explosion is one way of getting rid of the smell

This really made me laugh out loud!!! Yes maybe spraying air freshener after lighting a candle isnt wise ha!

BillywilliamV · 11/09/2020 12:24

If you are making so much noise or smell that it becomes a problem then you probably need to address your diet!

TitsOutForHarambe · 11/09/2020 12:26

Some people on this thread have obviously never lived in a house with thin walls! The noise doesn't have to be comedic raspberries - in some houses you can hear it plop into the toilet Confused

GreekOddess · 11/09/2020 12:28

My en-suite is big with a window so it's perfectly fine. Dh and I are both very considerate of each other so it's not caused any issues. It works for us.

The downstairs loo isn't that private and the main bathroom is really the domain of my boys so I'm happy to avoid using that one where possible!

Man shits in his own toilet in his own house. LTB.
UnfinishedSymphon · 11/09/2020 12:30

I don't get the problem with hearing someone poo, we all do it ffs

Oysterbabe · 11/09/2020 12:33

DH and I have never discussed it but we each have a desire for privacy which means we'll seek out a toilet not near other members of the household. We have one on each floor (so 3 toilets) and if everyone is downstairs we'd probably go up to the ensuite on the top floor, in the hope that we can finish before a child notices we've escaped and hunts us down. If we're both in bed then I think we'd go down to the main bathroom.

Hingeandbracket · 11/09/2020 12:35

This is the most trivial thread ever.

VinylDetective · 11/09/2020 12:36

We have three loos, none are en-suite and all available for all bodily functions. It would never occur to me to do anything else.

TitsOutForHarambe · 11/09/2020 12:40

I'm not fussed either, but I only mentioned the thin walls because a few people on this thread have said that if someone outside the bathroom can hear you pooing it must mean you have a medical problem or need to change your diet. I was just pointing out that plenty of people live in houses where you definitely can hear someone poo if you are in the next room!

justasking111 · 11/09/2020 14:22

It is not the plop but the straining and excess wind that gets me. The aroma does not do much for me either. OH reads mags. whilst doing his ablutions which last for many, many minutes.

Kolsch · 11/09/2020 15:02

How do you carry on when staying in a hotel room with a bathroom?
I'm not bothered about my en suite being used for a shit. It's a toilet, it's what it's there for.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/09/2020 15:16

Well we only have one toilet, and sometimes have to shite while one is in the bath, so I don't think I could get worked up about a shit in the end suite, would just be nice to have the option of another toilet to use.
