Verbal job offer but...

Heard nothing since! Interview was on a Friday, 2 weeks tomorrow. I was told I was successful & offered the job the same day - told HR would email me next week.

When I hadn’t heard anything by Friday, I called & was told I was on the system and would hear shortly. Now it’s been another week... nothing.

WIBU to start looking for another job? Or should I call again tomorrow to chase them? Feels a bit disheartening now... I need to work.

It’s for the NHS if that’s relevant.

I'd probably keep looking until I get anything official from them. (I know someone who was verbally offered a job and actually left their existing job but the new one never materialised).

I would definitely chase again tomorrow. I'm not in the NHS but in a related dept and paperwork is pretty slow at the minute, a lot of leave and people engaged on covid work.

but yes, no harm keeping looking until they do give you a formal offer although if someone checked and said you were on the system it's quite likely just slow admin.

Chase again. I had this once and all I could get out of them for literally weeks was ‘you’re the preferred candidate’ What the hell does that even mean?!! I was literally on tenterhooks. My boss at the time was the one who told me I had the job as she was asked for a reference, how bonkers is that?!! In the end I declined the job because of personal reasons but I see the same job being advertised every 6 months so other people must have the same problem. Hope it works out well for you.

Completely typical for public sector, can take them weeks and weeks. Keep chasing. I refused to give notice until I got my contract which took 3 weeks, then they had to wait 3 months on top of that.
It’s irritating but very normal. But do keep nagging.
