Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Thanks whoever mentioned the Squeaky Bean vegan tikka bites, they went down VERY well with all members of the family. My son has asked to have them in his packed lunch but we ate them all already!

It's been a while since I ate any kind of poultry but I think if you gave them to a meat eater they'd think it was chicken. And they're on offer in Sainsbury's at the moment. Quite expensive when not on offer though so will probably only buy occasionally.

I really want to try the Pane Pugliese but can't find it locally, the Crosta e Mollica pizza bases are divine.

It's soo easy to make it's just getting the ratios

Quinoa
Brown lentils
Boil each separately till soft

Drain water
Chuck in a cube of frozen or fresh spinach
Boil edamame beans and broccoli

Mix all together
Add mint and lemon to taste

That is literally it. Just have to play around with the ratios. I've saved so much money making them myself

I've receny discovered some amazing Italian bread in Sainsbury's - Pane Pugliese by Crosta e Mollica. It's divine and perfect for bruschetta with garlic and pomodorino tomatoes.

AliTheMinx · 14/09/2020 21:23

Oooh - and Leon aioli. Delicious!

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/09/2020 01:58

Ryvita rosemary and sea salt flatbreads.

Sloeginclub · 15/09/2020 02:13

Barry Norman pickled onions from Ocado. If you like pickled onions they're the best we've ever had!

pollywollydoodler · 15/09/2020 05:32

Skyr fat free yoghurt is thick, creamy and tangy. Bears no resemblance to other fat free yoghurts

Asda Smartprice dark choc 30p per bar of deliciousness. Great taste. Makes fab cornflake and sultana cakes.

Asda Moroccan spiced hummus
Asda or Ryvita salt and crackedblack pepper thins

Propercorn Peanut Butter & Almond Popcorn

Carte D'Or Chocolate Indulgence ice cream, a proper chocolate hit.

Why don't you? Grin

Ok so who has taken all the advocaat chocolate bars from my local Asda? Shouldn't have told you about them. Wink

MirandaMarple · 15/09/2020 19:28

@Swallowzandamazons

Preserved lemons. They go in salads, with roast veg, in couscous, in vegetable pies and curries and pretty much anything that needs a bit of zshuzshing up.

Lime pickle (from the indian section) - I use it pretty much as the preserved lemons but it has a much spicier kick.

Raspberry or other fruit vinegar (from a shop called Demijohn) - it's tasty enough to use all on its own as a salad dressing. I'm currently working my way through a bottle of elderflower vinegar and it's absolutely gorgeous. No oil required, honest.

Thanks for the lime pickle tip. Preserved lemons are so expensive!

I second the sweet cheese bun from the Polish bakery. Apparently they sell it in asda, tesco and morrisons but it's always out of stock online in sainsbury's. It's bloody delicious.

So many amazing suggestions! Looking forward to planning next week's menus.
My contribution is Manomasa tortilla chips, especially the manchego and green olive flavour. Heaven with a tub of guacamole! Available from Asda round here

Sweet suffering Baby Jesus! Thanks whoever recommended the sea salt & Chardonnay vinegar crisps. I'm eating them in small portions. The acidity is fabulous, my mouth isn't thanking me though.

I'm eating Aldi's version as it's available in Ireland.

kelly14 · 15/09/2020 21:28

Truffle pesto!!

M & S and Waitrose do their own brand but also Salca? Do one. All amazing I could eat out of jar!
I put on chicken thighs with skin on.

With a long fresh pasta, with fresh basil.

I do New potatoes with olive oil, bacon lardons, Fresh Rosemary and loads of truffle pesto on.

Truffle oil also amazing!

Namechangeforthis88 · 15/09/2020 21:29

It wasn't me @Cherrypi! I only had two, from Asda Chesser.

Amateur, DH and I ate a whole bag between us. I couldn’t feel my lips afterwards Confused

Can people stop recommending this please. I only buy it when it's reduced but if youse lot are all whipping it off the shelves while it is still full price then they won't be reducing it for us cheapskates. Sad

My whole mouth is full of saliva.

I'm obsessed with Soba pot noodles. I know, I know, its literally a pot noodle, but hear me out - I have a Japanese friend who got me into them as they are the only ones japanese people eat at home. They are AMAZING. I don't know how they make them taste like they do, they kind of even taste healthy??

I've only found them in Tesco so far.

timtam23 · 15/09/2020 22:43

Red pepper roasted giant corn from Aldi. In amongst the little bags of snacks with all the paleo/grain bars etc. I stockpile this several bags at a time.
Potato rostis from Quality Save/Home Bargains. In the fresh food chiller section. These were a last-minute buy as full lockdown loomed and we liked them so much I go back to buy them regularly now.
Lidl white chocolate with cornflakes and coconut
Balsamic glaze (I get mine from Morrisons)
Milk chocolate coated malted milk biscuits - I started buying these when all the choc digestives disappeared in lockdown, now I prefer them. Cheapest in quality save/home bargains
Quality Save also sell a couple of varieties of Ben & Jerry's ice cream very cheaply compared to usual supermarket prices

Ladylimpet · 15/09/2020 22:55

There's a red wine in Aldi. Think it's the 'carcassonne'. Some French lady went mad and bought loads of bottles. Said it's more than double the price in France, and a very good wine. I did buy a bottle, just not tried it yet!
Definitely the Geeta mango chutney. I didn't even like mango chutney, until I tried that!
Also, I have to tell you all about the jam I've just bought. It's the Bonne maman range. The strawberry and wild strawberry one...oh my god. It's bloody lovely!
