To be confused about the rules on meeting people

So I’m confused about the rules on meeting people, and yes I’ve read the guidance and I’m still confused.

So current rules are that can meet one other household inside and up to six people outside.

But there is a second rule which states that cannot have more than 30 people in a private house or outside.

And the news today is saying that this secondary rule might be dropped.

So is the secondary rule to cover people with enormous individual households and stop them meeting up or is there something I’m not getting?

So Aibu to be confused ?

I got muddled too.

From what I can see, the 30 people is a legal limit because they can’t prosecute otherwise as it’s too hard to define “household”. So more than 30 is breaking the law. It covers all households even if they are enormous.

The 6 people is in the guidelines. It’s what they want us to do but isn’t legally enforceable. And it’s very unfair if you have a family of six and want to meet granny in the garden.

Now if you’re in Wales.....

30 people is law, 6 people is guidance.

They deliberately blur the edges when they report on the BBC etc, but the law is clear. What Boris is threatening now is to reduce the legal cap to 6.
