Just looks like some kind of beetle

ValidUser · 07/09/2020 00:28

That's Seán. Nice fella.

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 07/09/2020 00:31

Looks like a stag beetle

Staycalmandscream · 07/09/2020 00:36

Its pincers don't look big enough for stag beetles.
Might be a black clock beetle.
As long as its not indicative of a problem with my house (damp, food debris etc) I can relax a tiny bit!

Ah I see them now and again in my house. I live in the countryside so get a fair share of bugs. They are harmless I believe. Can be pretty big though!

1forAll74 · 07/09/2020 00:38

Stag beetles have two quite thick antler type things out front, maybe this is a young one. You can get it up with a dustpan and put it outside.

ValidUser · 07/09/2020 00:39

Could it have just got in a door/window?

Scrowy · 07/09/2020 00:49

It's just a beetle. They are quite active at the moment, especially at this time of night.

Staycalmandscream · 07/09/2020 00:51

Thanks. I feel reassured!
No need to move out Grin

Just looks like a normal black beetle, nothing to worry about. It's not a deathwatch beetle or a woodworm beetle (which would be concerning for your house).

Wouldn't worry about it, in all honesty. I have to deal with fecking cockroaches of all sizes (Australia) so I've become rather inured to general beetles (although I get a bit worked up about assassin bugs, since a friend's kid was stabbed by one)

raddledoldmisanthropist · 07/09/2020 00:57

It's a ground beetle.

TitsOutForHarambe · 07/09/2020 01:17

It's not a cockroach, if that's what you're worried about.

Honeybeexo · 07/09/2020 01:57

It’s John Lennon the beetle

TheSandgroper · 07/09/2020 02:07

It's Alexander.

Somewhere there is a disconsolate child.

Monty27 · 07/09/2020 02:18

It's got juice

Oncemorewithfeelin · 07/09/2020 04:40

I have not idea of its real name but when I was a child we called them rain beetles, apparently if you stepped on them it made it rain

RealMermaid · 07/09/2020 06:58

Looks like a female stag beetle. Only the males have the oversized pincers.

bobbiester · 07/09/2020 07:52

Life must have been terrifying before the internet. It's a beetle. Put it outside.

LittleMissTeacup · 07/09/2020 20:27

I think it’s a stag beetle. Definitely just put it outside (far away from your house if you’re like me!)

ToManderleyAgain · 07/09/2020 20:31

It’s a carabid beetle (also known as a ground beetle). www.ukbeetles.co.uk/carabidae There are many species of carabid beetle, not sure which this is I’m afraid. It is definitely not a stag beetle though.
