I would say currently it's Geoff from Corrie.

Fecking Bing! Always bloody moaning and whinging...and i cant avoid the fecker..my 3yr olds obsessedAngry

onlinelinda · 08/09/2020 23:00

Mellors definitely.

Mittens030869 · 08/09/2020 23:05

DI Japp in the Poirot stories. He's just completely thick most of the time, though tbf he isn't as bad in the books as in the film versions. But I would really despair if that really was the usual standard of DCIs expected in Scotland Yard! Grin

user1471565182 · 08/09/2020 23:27

Nah I think Mellors was meant to be a twat. Connie comments and takes the piss out of his whole affected accent and professional working class stuff.
But DH Lawrence was a well known utter bellend.

Starksforthewin · 08/09/2020 23:43

Great thread OP! 👏

HARD AGREE with Mandy from The West Wing. She almost ruined every episode she was in. See also Ainsley.
I quite liked Amy EXCEPT for that scene in her apartment with Josh when she is trying to be a rock chick dancing in the kitchen. CRrrringe!

I also noted the soles of her feet were filthy! Practically black with dirt in that scene, yuk.

I can’t agree about Sorkin not creating good female characters. After all, he is responsible for the goddess that is CJ Cregg
I want to be her when I’m grown up.

Agree also with PP about some Game Of Thrones characters, especially Catelyn Stark. She was such a mean spirited woman, I don’t know how Ned ever fell in love with her. 😀
I was glad when she got offed at the Red Wedding.

Ally McBeal, although I loved the rest of the cast.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/09/2020 23:56

@Starksforthewin

I think we have chatted this before on another thread! The horrific sexist overtones TOWARD CJ were also Sorkin and she only came fully into her own when he was no longer on the show. I love CJ though, the final scene towards the end between CJ and Toby is amazing acting.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/09/2020 23:57

Did Ned ever really love Catelyn anyway? He married her out of duty, and then left her to hate and bully his nephew rather than trust her with the truth

Starksforthewin · 09/09/2020 00:26

Yes, Eine, you are completely right. She would have had many, many cases for sexual discrimination in the early seasons.

I loved it when Bartlet asked her to ‘jump off a cliff’ for him. Sob.

A further good point about Catelyn, damn you! 😀

I haven’t read the books, and I understand she has a completely different character arc as ‘Lady Stoneheart’.
You’ve made me wonder. Why didn’t Ned trust her enough to tell her the truth, especially when it meant such hatred directed towards Jon Snow.

Bluesparkled · 09/09/2020 01:24

Mary-Lou Trelawney when older
Tom Good- what a twat
Twins on Fireman Sam
That utter, utter arsehole Bing.
Nelly Dean
Rachel Zane (I’m not Markle bashing, I watched Suits and that character was so fucking annoying I stopped watching)
DI Goodman
Neelix
Buff, Chip and Kipper. Boring sods.

Newgirl20 · 09/09/2020 01:38

Edmund narnia chronicles:lion witch and wardrobe

KingscoteStaff · 09/09/2020 08:10

I am bringing up my daughter to be CJ.

Just need to work on the height...

Agree about Mandy, though.

DillonPanthersTexas · 09/09/2020 08:35

Milly from This Life
That weird orange woman from Hollyoaks
Frank Spencer
Any character played by Danny Dyer
Carrie from SATC

Mittens030869 · 09/09/2020 09:23

@Newgirl20 True, although that character was meant to be annoying in that book. As was Eustace in 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader'.

tantamountto · 09/09/2020 09:28

I love the Chip and Kipper books, and Milly from This Life is great!

triff123 · 09/09/2020 09:29

Skyler in breaking bad.
Helena in vampire diaries

Binkybix · 09/09/2020 10:40

It's probably too much to hope for a tsunami in Yorkshire but surely a plane could crash on them or something

Wasn’t there a plane crash over Emmerdale once many many moons ago?

sashh · 09/09/2020 10:56

Jar Jar Binks.

Anyone played by Bonnie Langford, stick to the stage dear, the over acting works in musical theatre jot on TV.

Frank Spencer - the only reason it had massive viewing figures was because there was nothing else on and everyone was waiting for the next programme to start.

Nemo and all the fucking fish family.

Bridget Jones, I have never read the book or seen the films, that is how annoying I feel about her just from people talking about it.

woodhill · 09/09/2020 11:18

He did do good stunts though particularly on roller skates

unicornpower · 09/09/2020 12:01

Matilda-Horrid little know it all.

Any character played by Olivia Coleman

Tracy Beaker

Julian from the Famous Five-He is so patronising.

Edmund and Lucy from the lion the witch and the wardrobe!

Mittens030869 · 09/09/2020 12:01

They've had too many disasters, that would be too much.

But hopefully, when Cain Dingle finds out that Jamie was to blame for the hit and run that nearly killed Moira, he'll kill Jamie, or at least threaten to, so that he breaks off with Belle. She always chooses a wrong 'un, doesn't she?

Then we'd have Kim come after the Dingles again.

These plots are just too easy to predict, aren't they?? Grin

unicornpower · 09/09/2020 12:04

Oh and Bran Stark! I was really hoping he would get killed off ASAP!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/09/2020 13:01

Two theories there, yes he fucked Catelyn over BUT :

a) the existence of a living Targaryen was HUGE. Robert would have had him killed. Taking no chances not even his wife. Also he barely knew Catelyn when Robb and Jon were babies, and by the time he knew she could be trusted the lie was too great

b) Had she known the truth Catelyn would probably have been kind to him, and that would look odd, a woman warm and accepting to the husbands lovechild

When the bullying became obvious and overt though, he should have told her SOMETHING.

Durgasarrow · 09/09/2020 13:36

Andi McDowell's character in Four Weddings was terrible! What was her redeeming qualities? That she 1. wore a gigantic hat that would block everybody's view and 2. slept with a batallion?

Collidascope · 09/09/2020 14:06

I've said this in another thread, but Anne Shirley. I love the Green Gables books, and I mostly like Anne too, but LM Montgomery's constant assertion of how special Anne is (Anne of the starry eyes... boak!), and how above all the pettiness and spite of the other little girls she is, and how struck everyone is by her is really irritating. Phil calls her Queen Anne in the third book, and goes on about how everyone in her home town will go "wild" for Anne when they meet her! Beautiful Ruby Gilli's looks so ordinary next to Anne. It's so implausible!

There's a similar idealisation dynamic going on with Ginny Weasley in Half Blood Prince but I think that's a bit more understandable as we're basically getting Harry's view of her and he fancies her. She goes around putting hexes on people and she's so gorgeous and feisty and so amazing at Quidditch and bla bla bla.
