Marley the dog. Sobbed like a baby.

Speaking of which, Thandie Newton's stillborn baby in ER. That absolutely floored me.

Macaulay Culkin as Thomas in my girl. Jesus I well up just thinking about it! 😭😭😭
Vada: Weeping willow with your tears running down / why do you always weep and frown? / Is it because he left you one day? / Is it because he could not stay? / He found shelter in your shade / You thought his laughter would never fade. / On your branches, he would swing / Do you long for the happiness that day would bring? / Weeping willow, stop your tears / for there is something to calm your fears; / If you think death has ripped you forever apart / I know he'll always be in your heart.

Granny Wetherwax Donny Bobby (supernatural)
Oh dear God, Bobby Singer!! 😭 Luckily he pops back as a ghost / spirit / memory in every series so I don't feel like he's gone, gone. I guess until this final series...

@pangolina omg yes to Lexi in The Hand that First Held Mine - I love that book and it’s heartbreaking.

MiddleClassProblem · 06/09/2020 19:56

Blackadder Goes Forth OMG yes! So clever and poignant. That deeply affected me as a teen and forever more to really understand war. It was the first time I had really seen it depicted being young (I think I was around 11 first time) and the viewer has such a strong relationship with the characters.

Starksforthewin · 06/09/2020 19:57

Ned Stark 😪

I often wonder what GoT would have been like if he could have lived longer than one season.

Also, Denny Duquette in Gray’s. Another one who sobbed at that episode.

I cannot watch The Lion King, obvs.

CoopsMalloops · 06/09/2020 19:58

Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser & Peter Quinn. Literally cried for both 😂

Oh, I forgot The West Wing, how could I?

Leo’s death on Election Night, and his funeral in the National Cathedral.

The real grief of the actors because of course John Spencer had actually passed away.

Martin Sheen emptying the Cathedral and then giving that speech to God and calling him a ‘thug’ had me in absolute floods.

Leo was my favourite character and personified The West Wing for me.

questionzzz · 06/09/2020 20:05

There's an off-stage death in Persuasion which kinda got me, because it was unexpected and showed a cold cruel side to Jane Austen? I love Persuasion (might be my favourite), love the character Anne Elliott and love JA- but the way she describes that death was very chilly. I can't remember the exact words, but she mentions the death of an incompetent son in a way implying that his family were thankful to be rid of his incompetence and doltishness? I may be applying modern sensibilities or whatever, but it struck me as quite bizarre and savage, out of character with her otherwise "genteel" mockery.

shartsi · 06/09/2020 20:06

Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

rhowton · 06/09/2020 20:06

Derek Shepherd

Rossaloony · 06/09/2020 20:07

Emma in One Day. The film adaption was absolute shite but her death scene was still horrible

Monkeynuts18 · 06/09/2020 20:07

Jack Dawson.

rhowton · 06/09/2020 20:07

@Nottobesoldseparately omg I'm with you. It literally broke my heart, it took me a few days to stop thinking about it!

Oh loads, Piggy, Tess of the D'uberviles, Tom and Maggie in the Mill on the Floss, and more recently, Luke in Coronation st, that was quite a shocker.

Crazycrazylady · 06/09/2020 20:14

Bambis mother. I still remember the trauma.
