Just in case, spoiler alert!

Sirius Black.

Oh my god, Assumpta in Ballykissangel. I was about 13 and it DESTROYED me

NeedToKnow101 · 06/09/2020 15:32

Don't want to give spoilers or
let any Line of Duty fans down but a character in series 1 of that. Still devastated today.

The character that died in That was then, this is now, by SE Hinton, devastated me as a child. (Or was it the Outsiders?) anyway I was devastated for years.

A character in Half of a Yellow Sun.

Characters in We need to talk about Kevin, and in Never Let me go.

Dr Greene

DustyMaiden · 06/09/2020 15:35

Will Gardener.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 06/09/2020 15:36

Wallace and D’Angelo in The Wire. Especially Wallace. Oh god...

Ginger in Black Beauty.

The Pevensies - and Susan, left behind.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN
Giovanni from Giovanni’s Room

Yes! That one really got me, too.

Lesley in Terabithia. It was so unsettling that a child could die in a children’s book.

Will Gardner (Gardener?) in The Good Wife totally had it coming, though, smug git.

SeaEagleFeather · 06/09/2020 15:36

Valjean in the book of Les Mis. All those ups and downs, everything he did for Cosette, and then because of her husband she almost forgets him at the end.

What the hell was she playing at? He was an amazing dad, loved her with all his heart, cherished her, gave her attention and love and education and she just lets herself be distracted from him. Him getting weaker and weaker trying to walk to their window look up ... ah fuck.

VeryLittleOwl · 06/09/2020 15:37

Billy Lloyd-Foxe. I first read Riders when I was 13, Jump came out when I was 35, so he was almost like someone I'd grown up with.

purpledagger · 06/09/2020 15:38

The Mother from How I met your Mother.

zukiecat · 06/09/2020 15:38

"Ughmaybenot*

Happy Valley was superb, but that young policewoman's death was so brutal .

I was shocked, Charley Murphy who played Ann played Iseult in The Last Kingdom.

Another sad death Sad

TheSoapyFrog · 06/09/2020 15:39

Dr Mark Greene in ER

curcurbita · 06/09/2020 15:39

@PointlessAnswer

Ruth from Spooks. Why couldn't she have lived happily ever after with Harry?
Yes this is my one.

And they did it like 5 minutes before the end of the ENTIRE SERIES, and in a really random way that made it just seemed so unnecessary.

Mumof1I · 06/09/2020 15:39

Derek shepherd

Natsel84 · 06/09/2020 15:40

Mathew Crawley

eandz13 · 06/09/2020 15:40

@Trailing1 I agree with King Francis, I've just rewatched it and it hurt the second time round too!

Tanith · 06/09/2020 15:41

Campbell Lafferty: the 14 year old shot at the end of the 1st episode of Prime Suspect 5. The minutes of him begging for his life stayed with me a long time.

Also poor Donald in Blue Remembered Hillls.

MoseSchrute · 06/09/2020 15:42

Joyce Summers - Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

And definitely Mufasa (Lion King). Haven’t worked up the courage to re-watch it since getting Disney plus

Chillyourbeans · 06/09/2020 15:42

Ruth from Spooks, Assumpta from BallyK and Ali in Cutting It.

spinspinsugar55 · 06/09/2020 15:43

Glen 😭 - The Walking Dead

Tara - Buffy

CooperLooper · 06/09/2020 15:43

Glenn, Walking Dead. Took me by such surprise I cried my eyes out, and I haven't enjoyed watching it ever since then 😭

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 06/09/2020 15:44

The main character in the Divergent series. The whole last book was dire and her death was completely unnecessary and added nothing to the plot.

Toria1586 · 06/09/2020 15:44

@FelicityPike agreed no one on earth has ever gotten over Artax!! 34 years old still won’t watch that film!

Nancy from Oliver Twist broke my heart

Nishky · 06/09/2020 15:44

@Rockbird agree entirely about Assumpta. How could they. Awful

SoManyActivities · 06/09/2020 15:45

Bruno and Shmuel in the Boy in the Striped pyjamas. Devastating final scene.

It would have been just as devastating if the little Aryan boy hadn't died though. I never understood why John Boyne killed Bruno as well - it's as if he thought it wouldn't have been dramatic enough if just Shmuel died, cos ya know, we already know he was screwed from the start Hmm There had to be a 'twist' to make it more 'shocking'.

It has always pissed me off!

DuckonaBike · 06/09/2020 15:45

Yes to Ruth from Spooks - that was so cruel, why couldn’t they give them a happy ending?

Lesley from Bridge to Terabithia - really shocking in a children’s book to kill off one of the main characters.

Lee Scoresby and Hester, but even worse was the explorer father (John Parry?) who is killed moments after finally being reunited with his son. I mean, why?

daisychain01 · 06/09/2020 15:46

Robert Powell's depiction of Jesus in Jesus of Nazareth - absolutely heart-wrenching. I've never cried so much. Such a human story. I have never got over it.
