To insist that DH repairs the damage/mess first?

A few weeks ago DH bought a celeriac supposedly for a recipe he never ended up doing. The celeriac ultimately moulded in the cupboard so much that it dripped onto the crisps on the lower shelf. It stinks. I asked him to clean it out so he took it outside, stamped on it and then put it in the bin. It splattered all over the new paving stones that we’re laying. DH wants to carry on laying the pavers today but surely the mess needs clearing up first?? It stinks and he’s saying the rain will wash it away?? It’s nearly into cold wet weather and we need these pavers down so could without this right now.

Is dh 15? Why wouldn't he have cleaned it up properly? Is he just lazy or incompetent?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/09/2020 09:09

He should clean it up. Why did he stamp on it?! 😳

YeOldeBlackFog · 06/09/2020 09:10

He stamped on it so it wouldn’t take up much room in the bin apparently 😐

Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/09/2020 09:10

He stamped on it?

ClementineWoolysocks · 06/09/2020 09:11

Urgh. Of course he needs to clean it up. Why didn't someone throw it away before it had chance to mould so much it was dripping?

drspouse · 06/09/2020 09:12

Had it grown legs and arms and become beachball sized? How big can a celeriac get??

LittleBearPad · 06/09/2020 09:13

He needs to clear up the cupboard and outside obviously.

I’m staggered he doesn’t seem to get this.

GinDrinker00 · 06/09/2020 09:14

Question is, why didn’t you throw it away either? Why did you both leave it to get that bad? Confused

Aweebawbee · 06/09/2020 09:15

To answer the question, the rain will wash it away and if he wants to work next to a stinky mess, there is no technical reason why he shouldn't.

Is he a slob and should he have cleaned it up anyway? Sure.

TheHappyHerbivore · 06/09/2020 09:15

Does this really need a thread? Can’t you just ask him to clean it up?

granadagirl · 06/09/2020 09:16

I’d let him finish the paving first, if you say anything You may end up arguing and paving won’t get done.

Then after he’s finished I’d say
Whilst your cleaning away, clean that mess as well !

Dohorseseatapples · 06/09/2020 09:16

OMG OP! Your DH sounds like mine!
His approach would be the same.
If something is broken he will shake it or bash it hard to ‘get it working again‘.
If something needs throwing away he will stamp on it or crush it.
He used to stamp on baked bean cans before throwing them away (pre. wash and recycle times) Bean juice everywhere.
He’s an idiot! 😂😂😂

Dohorseseatapples · 06/09/2020 09:18

Does this really need a thread?

Yes, it does TheHappyHerbivore.

Made me laugh OP! (Sorry!)

ClarencesMum · 06/09/2020 09:20

Do you think he might be holding out for an argument so he ends up nir doing any graft today?

EatDessertFirst · 06/09/2020 09:22

Its pretty manky of both of you to allow a food item to get that rotten its dripping out of your cupboards. Grim.

Yes he should clean it up outside and in the skanky cupboard. There was no need to stamp on a celeriac. They aren't that big. Thats something my xH would do and he has anger issues.

YeOldeBlackFog · 06/09/2020 09:31

I didn’t know it was in there. I could smell something off but that isn’t a cupboard we normally use for food so didn’t realise as I don’t eat crips either

MeridaTheBold · 06/09/2020 09:42

So is the laying of the paving stones halted until you get a response from MN? Confused

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 06/09/2020 09:45

let the rain wash it away

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 06/09/2020 09:46

very odd to keep it in the cupboard

DrDavidBanner · 06/09/2020 09:50

Nasty! I'm not one for celeriac but wouldn't it be better stored in the fridge in the first place?

Anyway thats beside the point. I think this is a demonstration of deliberate incompetence that men can be so good at. Do a crap job of something and you'll never be asked to do it again.

FallonsTeaRoom · 06/09/2020 09:52

It should have been in the fridge. It's where I store veggies like that (and the kitkats in the same drawer - DH hasn't found those, oddly enough!)

rwalker · 06/09/2020 09:52

life's to short he's doing paving how long would it take you to wipe it down whilst he doing paving .
If something goes off in our fridge I don't think who bought it them make them clean it up
You could offer to do the paving whilst he cleans it up

MusicWithRocksIn1t · 06/09/2020 09:53

Let him lay the stinking slabs himself. This is all of his own doing.
My DH has a habit of putting food in unusual places and took a long time to get him to stop doing it.
Is he normally so selfish and lazy about house work?

Walkaround · 06/09/2020 09:55

Your dh sounds like a complete loon! Why keep celeriac in a cupboard instead of the fridge; why stamp on it; why not clear it up?! Does he have a more sensible approach to laying paving stones, or is he planning to use the rotten celeriac juice to make some kind of permanent glaze or decoration? Grin

PicsInRed · 06/09/2020 09:55

Was he doing that to make a point? To make you regret asking him to clean up his own mess?
