To insist that DH repairs the damage/mess first?

YeOldeBlackFog · 06/09/2020 09:06

A few weeks ago DH bought a celeriac supposedly for a recipe he never ended up doing. The celeriac ultimately moulded in the cupboard so much that it dripped onto the crisps on the lower shelf. It stinks. I asked him to clean it out so he took it outside, stamped on it and then put it in the bin. It splattered all over the new paving stones that we’re laying. DH wants to carry on laying the pavers today but surely the mess needs clearing up first?? It stinks and he’s saying the rain will wash it away?? It’s nearly into cold wet weather and we need these pavers down so could without this right now.

Paving, patio, annoying DH.... Mmmmmmmm.

seayork2020 · 06/09/2020 09:59

Maybe we're just weird but one of us does some mad thing and the other helps with the effects or the other way around- it all works out in the wash, or not in this case

But I guess my MN answer should be 'omg how on earth could your fella do that i would not put up with it i would leave now!'

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 06/09/2020 10:03

yes, might be an opportunity to reenact Brookside

BlueJava · 06/09/2020 10:12

I'm going to make the assumption that anyone like this is not a first time offender for stupidity, childishness and general twat-fuckery. Clean it up yourself, but dump him so he's gone.

BeachLane · 06/09/2020 10:18

Missing the point, maybe get a compost bin? But YANBU, of course he should clear up and not be so petulant.

Couldn't he clean the mess, then continue laying the paving stones? Will surely only take 10 mins at most. Be a nice warm up exercise!

DeliciouslyFemale · 06/09/2020 10:41

@YeOldeBlackFog

I didn’t know it was in there. I could smell something off but that isn’t a cupboard we normally use for food so didn’t realise as I don’t eat crips either
I was completely on your side, until you said you don’t eat crisps! What kind of weirdo are you? Now you’ve put me in the notion for a ready salted crisp sandwich. drool 🤤
Aquamarine1029 · 06/09/2020 10:57

Your husband sounds too stupid to live.

dollypartonscoat · 06/09/2020 11:00

Why don't you eat crisps?

rottiemum88 · 06/09/2020 11:02

Why wasn't the celeriac put in the salad drawer in the fridge?

Frankly the stamping on it is just bizarre Confused

QuestionableMouse · 06/09/2020 11:04

Just chuck a bit of disinfectant down when the slabs are laid.

MamaSloth · 06/09/2020 11:15

I'm reading this while breastfeeding and I'm laughing so much that I'm disturbing DD who keeps on glaring at me!

MadameMeursault · 06/09/2020 11:16

I’m suspecting this might be about more than just celeriac.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 06/09/2020 11:19

what a waste of celeriac

LadyH846 · 06/09/2020 11:20

He stamped on a mouldy celeriac to help it to take up less room in the bin? That's something you would bag up. Not stamp on?!

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/09/2020 11:25

Zoflora.

That is, apparently, the answer to everything.

Celeriac is horrible stuff even before it goes off, so your DH WBU.

Undies1990 · 06/09/2020 11:29

You both sound immature.

If something smells off in a cupboard, you investigate and sort it out. If a vegetable has gone off, you put it in the bin. No need to stamp on it. No need to fret about dirty paving slabs either.

Oysterbabe · 06/09/2020 11:31

The smell of fresh celeriac makes me heave. I can only imagine the smell of rotting celeriac 🤮🤮

BlindAssassin1 · 06/09/2020 11:35

That's going to stink, he needs to clean it up. But if he's laying the slabs let him crack on getting up close to what is effectively compost on the ground.

Haha!

I would tell your celeriac stomping dh if he wants to lay the slabs with the remnants of mouldy celeriac on then to go ahead, but you won't be helping. Did he clean the cupboard?

QuestionMarkNow · 06/09/2020 11:49

Did he clean the cupboard would be my first question, never mind the slabs.

He acted like a child. I mean a celeriac doesn’t take that much space. Plus who keeps a celeriac in a cupboard. In my house, it belongs to the fridge.
And it must have been there ages....

I see where you’re going with this, 😂😂.
HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 06/09/2020 19:03

@Dohorseseatapples

OMG OP! Your DH sounds like mine! His approach would be the same. If something is broken he will shake it or bash it hard to ‘get it working again‘. If something needs throwing away he will stamp on it or crush it. He used to stamp on baked bean cans before throwing them away (pre. wash and recycle times) Bean juice everywhere. He’s an idiot! 😂😂😂
How attractive. Nothing more alluring than men stamping on stuff. I have visions of vegetables sputtering everywhere and the mouldy juices flying into the air all other feet, legs, the cat as it walks past.

Anyway. Can you ring 101 and report it?
