I’ve been out of teaching for 6 years and started new job last week. I have obviously done my research online before posting on here but I will feel better if I hear from fellow teachers too about:

  1. assessing without levels, what does this really mean? - so do I not share at all where the student is? What about parent evenings can I not discuss how well the kids are doing?

  2. what other latest buzz words are in education that I need to be aware of?

  3. where do most of you go online to get up to speed with latest educational changes and updates?

On a side not, I’m really getting a bad feeling from new school, as they don’t grasp I’ve been out of education for such a long time and look annoyed everytime I ask a question which to them is obvious, but to me it’s all new! They are making me feel stupid for asking “simple” questions but I want to do my best so will not stop asking no matter how silly they make me feel - any advice?

Might be a good idea to post your year group as it might help people advise you.

Good idea! It’s secondary.

Secondary everywhere I know uses GCSE grades and decimalises them to show progress throughout the year.

EHA, Thirst for learning, progress, quality, embedding, behaviour for learning, gdpr and recently bubbles, collide, sanitise .

I don't use Facebook but loads of info there I understand. TES. Exam board sites.

In addition I would suggest you get to grips with microsoft Teams /sharepoint, powerpoint, excel if you're not already.

Good luck!!

Secondary here.

We use GCSE scores to assess at ks4. Y9 we use GCSE materials but do a sort of projection grade. Y8 we use SATs language - mastery/secure/developing/emerging to show how well they are absorbing the skill.

Best place for keeping up - Twitter, without a doubt. Go on there, find your subject (@teamenglish1for me) and start following people. It's brilliant.

Have a look in The Staffroom topic here - it's in the education section.
