To ask if anyone knows where I can but dental cement today?

My front crown has just fallen out. The dentist is closed and the emergency line isn't open until 6pm and for phone consultations only. I start a new job Monday morning
I have heard of dental cement which I could do myself but I'm miles from a town and dont want to just go from shop to shop. Is this something which s sold in a pharmacy or supermarket?
So hope someone knows as I'm in such a panic here

I've seen it in Boots definitely next to the interdental brushes and floss, so I bet loads of pharmacies sell it.

It comes as a kit, I think.

marriednotdead · 05/09/2020 15:42

Try a larger branch of Boots. Might be worth a phone call first.

Good luck with the new job!

JamieLeeCurtains · 05/09/2020 15:43

You can ring pharmacies and ask, including the supermarket ones - google the phone numbers.

WhatsGoodForTheGoose · 05/09/2020 15:44

Supermarkets may have them. Boots will and I've definitely seen dental kits in Home Bargains.

juneisbustingout · 05/09/2020 15:44

Thanks so much. I'm in such a huge panic I didn't even think of calling a pharmacy

Good luck Flowers

WisestIsShe · 05/09/2020 15:45

The pharmacy in my local Sainsbury's sell it.

confusednortherner · 05/09/2020 15:49

Savers have it too cheaper than Boots

GertrudeCB · 05/09/2020 15:50

Asda pharmacy

Mrsmorton · 05/09/2020 15:51

Amazon prime. I got some off there to fix my dads tooth in lockdown. The huge irony being that I'm a dentist.

TheSeedsOfADream · 05/09/2020 15:52

I keep a pack handy. Boots, even a tiny one, mine was from a Boots with no till other than the pharmacy counter.
What a nightmare for you. Flowers Mine dropped out on a plane!

Torvean32 · 05/09/2020 15:56

Ive seen it in boots and sainsburys.

Loving this! Grin
Mrsmorton · 05/09/2020 16:40

@JamieLeeCurtains I could hear his thought process

"what the fuck is this? Five years at university and you give me this bullshit"

Fortunately he got seen by his own (amazing) dentist not long afterwards. The pressure on me felt immense!

BashfulClam · 05/09/2020 17:51

Are the temp kits any good?

Mrsmorton · 05/09/2020 18:11

@BashfulClam it depends why the tooth has failed, the condition and shape of the remaining tooth and many other factors. They can be excellent.

juneisbustingout · 05/09/2020 18:14

Ok I'm back from trawling Asda then Sainsbury's. Asda had sold out but got a pack from Sainsbury's.
I'm actually terrified to do it myself so decided to have a glass of wine instead and brave it tomorrow.
Does anyone know if a dentist will see me on Monday? I don't know if this is an emergency. I mean it is fir me but clearly not life threatening. However I've never been so glad to wear a mask as I was today

@Mrsmorton I’m just terrified of making a mess with it lol. I have one large filling, there was decay under an existing filling that my dentist couldn’t see. I was eating rice and a chunk came off my tooth (luckily no pain), I had just seen the dentist for a check up 3 days before. He cleaned it out and put in and adhesive filling, it was lucky that chunk came off so the decay was discovered before it did more serious damage. I’m scared of something going wrong whilst dentists are restricted.

Mrsmorton · 05/09/2020 18:30

Why are you terrified OP? DM if you want to talk through it. No idea if your dentist will see you, I'd be surprised if they would because you're not in pain but never say never.

eatsleepread · 05/09/2020 20:32

Lloyd's Pharmacy.

AHobbyaweek · 05/09/2020 22:37

If it makes you feel better my filling feel out the start of lockdown and now starting to hurt but if I want to see a dentist I need to try and register with a new one and go and my social anxiety makes that unlikely for a while.

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/09/2020 22:47

I feel for you OP. In July one Fri night, my front crown came out. It completely broke off as I took a bite out of a rocky road (which I haven't touched since!)

I texted my dentist (at 11pm!) and sent him a photo and he came back to London on Sat morning to temporarily glue it back in. His words were "I can't have you walking around like that!"). I then saw him again on the Mon to be fitted for a new crown and had a new temporary crown fitted while I waited for the new crown to be made. It was all very stressful and cost me a lot of money but it was worth it. I have been a patient of my dentist for a good 10+ years though and know him very well. If I wasn't a registered patient, I don't think I would have got the same quick response.

Torvean32 · 06/09/2020 04:57

I feel your pain. I've managed to break 4 teeth during lockdown ( never broke any before this).
I had to have a front tooth and the one next to it removed 11 days ago. I have to wait til the 18th to get fitted for some kind of denture. Then another 2 weeks for it to be made.. I've never been more glad to wear a mask.

juneisbustingout · 06/09/2020 18:25

My sympathies go to all who have had dental problems
Well I phoned our emergency service at 8.30 this morning to be told that they are giving phone advise only ( usually they run a dental emergency service at the local hospital out of hours)
So this afternoon I've stuck it on myself. It doesn't look great and is sticking out quite a bit but it's better than the nasty little black peg tooth that was showing
I'll be able to start my job tomorrow and then hopefully get to the dentist on my day off on Wednesday
Thanks to everyone who advised
