Times magazine not included with paper this morning - anyone else had this?

V random AIBU and absolutely not important, but just posting this out of interest. AIBU to ask if anyone else who’s bought the Times today is also missing the magazine?

Went to buy the Times paper today, which normally has a magazine with it as it’s the weekend, but none of the shops I went into had the magazine included, although magazine content has been advertised on the front of the paper, so it has been published with the paper.

Anyone else had this?

I think its something to do with disruption caused by Extinction Rebellion last night.

nosswith · 05/09/2020 12:16

Is it a consequence of the Extinction Rebellion protests which blocked delivery of Murdoch group papers?

Pelleas · 05/09/2020 12:17

Probably to do with this:

There you go...

Ha ha cross-posts R Us!

Pombearsandnaiceham · 05/09/2020 12:20

Ahh okay thanks everyone! I knew XR were protesting, but hadn’t seen anything about the protests stopping deliveries. Weird that the paper still could get delivered but the magazine wasn’t.

I have to say this has taken XR down in my opinion.

Who the hell do they think they are, trying to censor what people read?

I'll make up my own mind whether or not I agree with what's printed in the papers - I don't need XR to do it for me.

BostonCalling · 05/09/2020 12:49

I think it’s time for the police and government to take a much harder line with Extinction Rebellion. You can imagine the rightful outcry if the EDL or brexiteers tried to stop the publication of newspapers they don’t like.

Extinction Rebellion have no right to appoint themselves arbiters of what people are allowed to read and the individuals involved should be arrested and charged.

DeliciouslyFemale · 05/09/2020 12:54

They really are a bunch of self righteous pricks. I may not read those papers, but how fucking dare they try to dictate what others can read.

EssexGurl · 05/09/2020 12:56

I couldn’t get the Times in any shop - so would love the paper even without the magazine today. I’m distraught (exaggeration) my Saturday routine has been spoilt,

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/09/2020 12:57

We weren’t expecting to get ours (delivered) at all. There was no mag because of the Ext. Reb. protests, but TBH I can’t say I shall miss it.

PleasantVille · 05/09/2020 12:59

There was a man complaining about the lack or newspapers in the supermarket this morning and when I looked the stand where they usually are was almost bare and it was hardly 10am. I'd heard the news so knew about it but he obviously didn't.

Griselda1 · 05/09/2020 13:15

Weekend papers are expensive and I'd really miss the magazine.

Pelleas · 05/09/2020 13:18

BostonCalling Completely agree.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/09/2020 13:53

Ah, this explains why I couldn't get the Times in 4 shops this morning. I normally buy it on Saturdays for the Caitlin Moran column, TV section and food and travel features.

But round here the magazine is often missing so I always check it carefully to make sure everything is there.

You can buy a single issue for 99p on Kindle, so I wonder if that's still available?

BarbaraofSeville · 05/09/2020 13:54

I do read the proper news too btw.

waytheleaveswork · 05/09/2020 14:20

Only the supplements and not the actual paper were available in my local shop this morning. They gave me the mags for free, was overjoyed! They're the best bit.

Wow! I trust their will be some sort of disciplinary action taken, since she has actually encouraged this bullying and disruption?
BostonCalling · 05/09/2020 14:27

Personally I find that the Sunday Times is a much more interesting read anyway. I find The Times a bit dull but the sunday version tends to have a lot of good foreign news features and the magazine is better imo.

JadesRollerDisco · 05/09/2020 14:29

Whilst I don't think having a Rupert murdoch monopoly is exactly freedom of press, I can't support a cause which would protest in this way. It seems illogical and anarchic whilst also being synonymous of Nazis burning books. A good way to piss lots of people off and lose the message of their cause. Another example of the left getting it really fucking wrong

MaggieFS · 05/09/2020 14:41

Evidently mayhem, and as a pp said, I can choose for myself what news I choose to read and don't need anyone else to do the 'editing' for me.

We get a paper delivered on a Saturday. I feel terrible for the poor independent newsagent who has to spend his morning calling all of his customers to explain, and the paperboys who got up for nothing (no idea if they would still get paid).

Like others, I feel XR are getting away with too much at the expense of others.

cologne4711 · 05/09/2020 14:43

Not sure what ZR's beef is with newspapers. Maybe they should be blockading the factories that make SUVs instead.

I am a bit Confused that someone would come onto MN to say their Times magazine was missing though, and assume that you actually wanted to prompt a debate about ER; in which case, why not just say so? I actually have things missing from the Times several times a year and would never come on here to comment about it.

cologne4711 · 05/09/2020 14:43

XR not ZR!
