No, it works well. Especially on the smaller midgey ones. The alternative if this is an ethical dilemma is to put up with it and not kill them.

FatCatThinCat · 05/09/2020 10:38

We use one of those blue light thingies.

rosiethehen · 05/09/2020 10:40

We have carnivorous plants.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 05/09/2020 10:41

oh a fly catcher plant?

We have cats. They are both quite fond of snacking on sky raisins.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 05/09/2020 10:46

haha
my dog is catching them mercilessly

AlCalavicci · 05/09/2020 10:49

@MangoBiscuit
My cat is too so I am stealing sky raisins !it made me chuckle.

I dont really like fly paper it seems crul but then so does fly spray when they are struggling to breath and throwing themselves around dying and because as above my cat likes to eat them I am worried about him ingesting the fly spray.

@rosiethehen
Are them kind of plants easy to look after ( I can kill a dandelion at 10 paces ! )

ColleagueFromMars · 05/09/2020 10:49

My dog chases them, gets wound up by them but is useless at catching them Hmm

I guess the blue lights are the most ethical way to kill flies.

There do seem to be more than usual this year.

ColleagueFromMars · 05/09/2020 10:51

@AlCalavicci not to mention the longer term health effects of you and/or your cat breathing in little bits of fly spray.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 05/09/2020 10:58

yes i hate the smell of fly spray

OP posts:
Happymama24 · 05/09/2020 11:01

What about using one of those zapper things that electrocute them, fast and easy to use

AlCalavicci · 05/09/2020 11:03

@ColleagueFromMars
I agree , it makes me cough and I guess with My Cat having smaller lungs it would be bad for him . ( he is a indoor cat so I can not put him out when I spray )

topcat2014 · 05/09/2020 11:03

Encourage spiders!

PrincessPain · 05/09/2020 11:07

We use fly paper.
I don't want to spray things because of my children and pets.
I have a blue light in the kitchen but it isn't super effective in thr daylight.
We have fly paper hanging from light shade in the living room and kitchen, i put it away if we have visitors (not that often) but you've got to do what you've got to so, flies look worse.
Got 22 in the first day but this was the hottest day a few weeks ago with all the windows and doors open.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/09/2020 11:10

I bought fly paper for the first time this year.

Our dog can hear us pick up the fly swat from the other end of the house and appears with his mouth open waiting for the flattened remains!

Paranoidmarvin · 05/09/2020 11:17

At my work they have a huge zapper thing. Works well. But doesn’t half make u jump when the zaps then. Sometimes it can be really loud

Mmmmdanone · 05/09/2020 11:20

I got a small plastic box thing that looks like an air freshener from Aldi. It's amazing. I just don't see any flies in the house. No idea how it works! Lasts 3 months and was about £2. I'll try and find the name of it.

Mmmmdanone · 05/09/2020 11:24

It's called zero in 90 day knock down. Get get it on Amazon (more expensive than aldi though) and hasn't got great reviews but I have found it amazing.

thenightsky · 05/09/2020 11:27

I got a blue light zapper thingy from Lakeland. Not one fly could be persuaded to go near it, never mind actually land on it.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 05/09/2020 18:02

I couldn't get any in pound land, they said they had been banned for being cruel but I could buy fly spray Confused, luckily wilkos had some
The spray would also make me cough

We use paper. We live on a farm and get so many flies.

sunshineandshowers21 · 05/09/2020 18:12

we bought a fly trap from amazon. it’s a plastic container that you put water and some special solution in and it attracts the flies and they go in the trap and die. we hang ours outside the back doors. it’s amazing! my kids are oddly fascinated by watching it fill it with dead flies. then you just empty it and you can buy refills of the solution on amazon.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/09/2020 18:30

Speaking from experience, just don’t hang fly papers anywhere you’re likely to get your hair caught in them!

At a friends’ place they had one hanging far too near a cupboard where a lot of their crockery lived, and more than once when putting away, I forgot that the beastly thing was there.
