What type of housing would you not want to live?

House , Flat Penthouse , Caravan etc

I would probably not want to live on the top floor of a massive block of flats, couldn't be bothered.

Above shops or right next to a pub. Centre of town with nightclubs- enjoy them sometimes but too old for constant weekend drunk routine.
Flatshare.

Rubyupbeat · 05/09/2020 01:24

Since living detached for 20 years, then anything non detached a big NO.
I could not live with no outside space.
And as for area, mine is becoming built up, so where I am situated is becoming a big NO.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 05/09/2020 02:01

I'm middle of a low rise council estate, which I always thought I would despise (4&5th floor of a 6th floor 1960s building). Outside space is a balcony.

I love it. I genuinely don't think I could ever go back to living at ground level again. I do miss having a garden, but realistically it'd be too much work for me on my own. I love the views I have, how much less hemmed in I feel. A tower block would be very different.

managedmis · 05/09/2020 02:03

An apartment right in the middle of a city. I hate carrying heavy groceries home

Terrace58 · 05/09/2020 02:07

I’ve lived in a wide variety of housing. The only thing I truly can’t stand is having housemates who are not my husband or children. As long as I can live “alone” I can be happy.

Covidiot2020 · 05/09/2020 02:20

Anywhere with stairs and no lift. I can't walk up a set of stairs, I need a lift. In an emergency I can shuffle down some stairs but it's not sensible to be high up in a tower for this reason.

FrolickingFannyBoots · 05/09/2020 02:28

High rise- no way in a billion years could I live high up. I have severe acrophobia ( fear of heights) - like really bad so could not even begin to cope with living in a tower block. Well I could - ground or first floor only!

safariboot · 05/09/2020 02:29

I don't like noise, so I'd think twice about a flat unless I knew it had good sound damping.

Anywhere within earshot of a cockerel.

I wouldn't like to live in prison Grin

Iammariedtojacksparrow · 05/09/2020 02:31

Its easier for me to say where I would live.

It would be a farm house near the coast in the middle of nowhere.

That would be the reason as to why I might never find my perfect home

rainwaterflow · 05/09/2020 02:49

Would never live in a terraced house, and would prefer not a semi.

I do live on the top floor of a big-ish (12 story not 45 story) apartment building, and two walls of my living room are glass. It also directly overlooks the Thames. It’s phenomenal, like living in a greenhouse in the sky.

rainwaterflow · 05/09/2020 02:50

I’d never live on the ground floor either, I wouldn’t feel safe.

QueenOfPain · 05/09/2020 02:54

New build anything Angry

Beesknees11 · 05/09/2020 02:57

I'd never voluntarily live on an estate or in a high rise/penthouse.
Detached house is the way to go.

Alongcameacat · 05/09/2020 02:57

Excluding living in a caravan. I’d choose location over any type of house every time.

A lovely detached with a massive garden in a crappy area or a flat in a desirable area, I’d choose the flat.

rainwaterflow · 05/09/2020 03:08

I’d never again live in a Victorian house. They require so much work and are so expensive to properly modernise. Great high ceilings though.

Bettyspants · 05/09/2020 03:08

I've lived in all your options. I would never again want to live in a flat, or somewhere with no outdoor space.

Marmunia1975 · 05/09/2020 03:11

I only do detached houses. Could never live in a semi. Luckily we can afford a four bed detached with gardens, driveway etc...

Marmunia1975 · 05/09/2020 03:12

Forgot to add, I only do new builds as the thought of using someone else’s toilet....

Alongcameacat · 05/09/2020 03:18

as the thought of using someone else’s toilet.

Out of interest what do you do when at work or in restaurants or staying in hotels?

ToastyCrumpet · 05/09/2020 03:25

Goodness there’s some unsubtle bragging on here.

I like terraces because they’re safer for my cat. I need to have a garden cos cat. I like the look of older houses but not the maintenance. Love brutalist and Art Deco.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/09/2020 03:30

Dh and I are having this debate at the moment. We are currently in a 4 bed detached house. but are planning to move in the next 3 years to another part of the country. We will be downsizing in order to pay off the mortgage.

We keep an eye on Rightmove to see what sort of property we might be able to move to. I am.much more flexible than DH but it's clear that we agree that we need a garden and we need a parking space for at least one car. Dh wouldn't want a new build and ideally wouldn't want to live on an estate whereas that wouldn't bother me. A bungalow wouldn't be my first choice but I wouldn't rule it out.

There is no way I would live in a high rise flat after Grenfell though.

You can buy a new suite
seayork2020 · 05/09/2020 03:44

A mansion (i hate large houses) or a flat without a balcony/courtyard as in no outside space

ChanceChanceChance · 05/09/2020 03:52

A big tall terrace, upstairs downstairs upstairs downstairs...

Plus you can't just about up if people are more than one floor above you so you have to go find them.
