to think that women's hairdressers should just do what you ask them to from time to time?

Had my hair cut on Wednesday, and just asked for a trim - it's straight, shoulder length and layered. 40 minutes later I had slightly shorter hair, and also a brand new fringe. WTF? Haven't had one since I was about 5, and was so incredulous that I meekly paid and sloped off. Of course I can't keep the damned hair out of my eyes now as it won't tuck behind my ears any more, and I can't think that hair clips would suit me.

And no, I'm not posting a picture as I look like a fecking toilet brush.

And DH had his hair cut today, and it was a five-minute job with the clippers which cost about 10% of mine, and was exactly what he asked for. There's no justice in the world.

Didn't she discuss the fringe with you?

No!

I have found the perfect hairdresser. My hair comes out looking exactly like I want it. The man is psychic or something. And his cuts always last three times as long as any other hairdresser.

Only downside is that the man is a total arsehole and I hate having to sit there listening to him spout his big-headed crap for the two hours it takes him.

What a PITA. The only thing to say is 'it will grow back . I had lovely long hair, all 1 length down my back and in May I had a few 'layers' cut into it. OMG what a bloody disaster - layers were really really short and unmanageable - ridiculous. EVERY MORNING when I wake up my mantra is 'it will grow back'. I have approx. 6 months to go and I'll be right.

TrinityRhino · 07/10/2007 09:33

thats is outrageous
they should never have done that without without asking you first
I would be enraged

Ohh me too....I went to the hairdressers on Friday. I have been trying to grow out a short style for about 8mnths. It had just got to a fairly manageable length, you know just on my shoulders. I explained that I wanted to keep the length as was growing it, that I wanted a trim, a side parting with a long fringe and the layers redoing so it was quite choppy and funky...I come out with a SHORT side parted, very close flat cut..with no choppiness..and NO length left. The layers he has cut are right up to about 1" at some points!!WTF!!! Now don't get me wrong..it does look nice but its NOT what I asked for in any way shape or form, its the kind of cut that if going to look awful in 4 weeks as it grows out of shape too!!
I just wish hairdressers would listen!!

i'm a hairdresser.....i do what the customer asks....but my old boss used to have his clients come in with one style and go out with a different one every visit even if they didn't want it!!!! he drove me mad!!! silly thing is all those customers kept coming back to him??? why is that?? i always do it as the client asks, then if i finish and they want this or that changing then i can do it then....and its their chioce, not me thrusting it upon them!!!

I had a similar experience Only I came out with exactly the same haircut that I went in with and like you I paid, said thank you and spent the next few days fuming when everyone said "I thought you were getting your haircut". I grew some balls and phoned them up to complain. They were very apologetic and the senior stylist cut it for me nearly how I wanted it (well they never get it 100% do they!) If you dont like it dont pay definitely- phone/go in get your money back.

staryeyed · 07/10/2007 11:57

Should add- I had asked for a dramatic channge!

constancereader · 07/10/2007 12:07

glaskham, you don't work in south wales do you? I obviously went to your old boss for my last haircut. I now have helmet hair. The butcher said it made me look old!!!!

I want you to cut my hair now. [hopeful]

Shergar, you have my sympathy.

glaskham · 07/10/2007 12:15

sorry, i'm in blackpool!!!! bit too far to come and do mobile hairdressing!! haha!!

i used to hate working with my old boss because of what he did to his poor clients who let him!! i suppose if they didn't like it they would have gone elsewhere!!.....must have been his 'gay-mans charm'....!!!!
