To think ‘mousey’ hair is the worst hair colour to have?

I am one of these people with naturally ‘mousey’ hair - until I was about 10 I had light golden blonde hair and as with a lot of people it gradually got darker. Since I was about 14 I’ve had highlights religiously every few months. So my hair is still ‘blonde’ but only because I spend so much money on it!

I absolutely hate the fact that without highlights I would be this ‘nothing’ colour - it’s not a nice brown/brunette colour and it’s not blonde. I don’t even know what I would look like if I let my highlights grow out and I never got them again but I can’t imagine it would look nice!

I know a lot of people get some sort of colour in their hair, balayage etc but most people would still look fine if they had their natural hair colour - I think all hair colours look nice apart from this weird mouse/dishwater.

Anyone else feel like me? Am I just destined to have to get highlights every few months forever so I look remotely nice!?

If you have let your hair go ‘natural’ and it is mousey and looks good I would be very interested to see it! I don’t think I can think of any celebs with that sort of hair!

all mens hair only ranges from light mouse to dark mouse

My exDH has very dark hair, almost black (he is white), my DF had brown hair when younger. I suggest you use your eyes!

Yes I've been colouring my mousy hair since 13. Still have my lockdown roots due to lack of time and it looks terrible. It just seems to lack any real colour I feel like it's more like a shade of dull grey and just looks lank.

If you wear colours that suit your own skin, hair, eye colouring, no-one would think the word 'mousey' when they look at your hair. They'll think maybe, golden brown, or stripey dark and pale brown, or ash dark blonde, or cool beige, or whatever, depending on how warm, cool, soft, clear, light, dark you are. If you're someone who feels you have mousey hair, you may be dressing in colours that are too dark and/or bright for you. This goes for makeup too, if you wear it.

This is definitely not the case. The drab hair colour completely washes out my skin tone it's nothing to do with clothing. You could never describe the tone as warm regardless of the clothes being worn

Same here blonde as a child had highlights untill I was about 23 then I just let my hair be natural, it's now got a lovely colour brown but with a rosy copper shine to it in winter and goes blonde ish during summer. I quite like it but from the years of 15 to 23 I hated my 'grey' asi I called it hair

I think "mousey" hair give you the best of all worlds- you can go darker or lighter- or reddish. Both will look good.
I have dark brown hair, and could never wear blonde highlights- it would look all wrong.
Also now that I have a significant amoount of grey I am burdened with root touchups every three weeks just to mainatin my natural dark brown colour.
Women with lighter hair than me can go for the blonde/grey highlight thing which looks amazing, and much easier to maintain- but not an option for me.
I feel I am more stuck with dark brown hair- not so many options.

Your hair colour doesn't dictate what shades you can dye though your skin tone does that. My dull mousey hair might take a dark dye but it wound look awful on me, and it takes surprisingly long to lift with a bleach despite having zero red tones so ends up a bit frazzled as it's fine. I doesn't look anything like the tastefully and beautifully styled deliberate mousy of the model pictures being shared lol
