I love learning about countries around the world, i am unable to explore physically due to covid so I would love to learn more fun interesting facts that you would kindly share!

Heres mine!

In Vietnam it is offensive to cross your fingers in a certain way, it is seen as an obscene gesture, akin to raising your middle finger and saying“F* You! It is also used to call people a derogatory name! Photo attached !

Bolivia has a navy but no coastline. They lost it to Chile in a war in 1904, but use the navy to patrol inland lakes and rivers, in the hope they get the coastline back one day.

Mauritius. DH is half Mauritian and I have visited once. A place of extremes of affluence and poverty. Some stunning scenery, tropical climate and interesting place names eg Flic en Flac, Pamplemousses. Several languages spoken, French, English and Creole. The home of the extinct dodo. Sorry, that was several facts!

@unchienandalusia we used to say holding thumbs in this country for good luck. It was in lots of books I read, although was never said to me, so I still.sometimes do it.

In Slovenia, there is a town just down the road from Ljubljana airport that is (or used to be) called 'The Red Town' because everywhere was covered in red-brown iron-smelting byproducts belched out by the foundry chimneys. Nice, eh ? This was over thirty years ago so I hope matters have improved.

There are only 18 letters in the Irish language. It doesn't have have J K Q V W X Y or Z. The vowels can be accented to elongate the sound.

That's not actually true... There aren't many, but I can think of at least 2 where I used to live, so I assume there must be others. They're called rotary junctions if I remember rightly.
