To spend nearly £200 on a tiny needle felted sculpture of my beloved dog?
Barely 10cm tall!

DH says it’s a complete waste of money and I can just hear my DM now aghast that I would spent so much money on such a thing...

Picture of an example of the artists work, (not my dog breed)

Would you?

Am I crazy..

I think you're crackers, but I have two Captain Marvel bobblehead toys, so who am I to criticise. Assuming the money is your 'fun' money and not causing your family to go without food or be late for rent or something, crack on with your head held high.

JulieHere · 03/09/2020 19:00

I have just reversed googled the picture. There are lots of these available. Many look dead (a bit like the pictures the Victorians? used to take of dead relatives). However, there are lots of people selling these on facebook etc now so a bit of a thing at the moment so you might be able to get one done a lot cheaper that doesn't look so 'dead' (its the eyes and the posture) and save some money?

Brainfogmcfogface · 03/09/2020 19:00

Well I’ve got £4 in my bank so no, no I wouldn’t. However if I did have that kind of money to waste I’d give it to a charity where it would do some good.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 03/09/2020 19:01

I have a portrait of my dog on the living room wall. It makes me happy so if you want it and can afford it get it and know you're not alone!

QuestionableMouse · 03/09/2020 19:01

It's outside of my budget but it's your money and you love it so unless you've sold the family silver you do you.

Ferrylass · 03/09/2020 19:02

Have a look at Feltmoon on insta, she makes amazing felt animals and is cheaper! 👍🏻

BlueDream · 03/09/2020 19:04

I'm quite stoned, so I 100% blame you if I now this evening go and spunk £200 on a stuffed version of my cat.

bluecoffeecups · 03/09/2020 19:05

@Borderstotheleftofme

I saw them in the daily mail, they are amazing. Long waiting list 8 months!! 😭 You may have import duty from the USA as well This artist is New Zealand based.

Although when my dog goes i want something to remember her by
Me too!
Apparently she can put a heart in felted out of the dogs fur too, though I’m not sure how much it would be to post the hair to New Zealand 🤔

Well you'll have import duty from New Zealand then.
krustykittens · 03/09/2020 19:05

If it makes you happy, OP, then it is your money and no, you don't have to give it to charity just because you have it. There are other artists doing similar and cheaper, I can get you a link from etsy if you like? There is an artist who does needle felted animals for dolls houses and I am sure she does pet portraits as well. She charges around £60 for a 1:12 dog.

HOkieCOkie · 03/09/2020 19:06

You know I actually think that’s gorgeous and I’m tempted to get one of my mums done as she will be the last dog we have.

BlueDream · 03/09/2020 19:08

I just mentioned this to DP and he said wait til he's dead and get him stuffed.

MustShowDH · 03/09/2020 19:10

It can cost that much to get a dog cremated and you get a box of ashes back, so something that reminds you of DDog is fine IF you can afford it.

Shop around though, sure I've seen cheaper advertised in UK.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2020 19:14

I would

I also love it 😍

Thank you but I found this artist on Etsy!
I have seen a lot of similar examples but I particularly like this artists’ style.

Oh no, I wouldn’t like to have ashes I don’t think.
Dog is still very much alive but when she passes I won’t have her ashes or anything in the house.
I think the sculpture is adorable, it would be a sweet little reminder of her when gone, imo anyway!
But I want it just because I think it’s adorable.

Apparently to get your dog actually stuffed (taxidermed) - it's over £2,000 in this country

Honestly, if it is small then taxidermy is the way to go. Lots of hobby taxidermists who need a good project for their evening classes who will do it for free

Yeah, that’s what my DH said too, when I told him about the cute little dog sculptures!

I think he was having a fit at the fact that I might just want one done of each one of my five little Jackapoos, because I said I couldn’t just get one done, it would be unfair on the others!

Going off to google if there are any cheaper alternatives in the U.K. He won’t like that?

You don’t know the right people

It is free here, mind you they need a bit of experience as early projects tend to whiff a bit until they get the knack

Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound you might have to pay

hiredandsqueak · 03/09/2020 19:18

If you can afford it then buy it. I'm showing it to dd though and telling her that she undercharged ds when he paid her £30 plus materials to needlefelt him a panda for his desk at work.

All this talk about stuffing!
I’m quite surprised it reminds so many people of taxidermy actually.
I just see a sweet little sculpture of a dog, pocket sized at 10cm tall maximum.

My dog is hip height and over 15kg!

Love it! Might get one of mogcat Grin

Polnm · 03/09/2020 19:24

When I was at school one of my friends stuffed my pet. He went on to be a very well known artist. Sadly it wasn’t great and rotted a bit. He also used to draw me a lot but trust my parents not to keep any of them

joystir59 · 03/09/2020 19:24

It's a ridiculous price. I'd expect to pay £20-30 for it.
